I used to be a subscriber to MusicMatch, which I really enjoyed. I had paid lifetime fees to ensure that I received all subscriber upgrades for years to come, of which the most enjoyable action was recording vinyl albums from my turntable to the computer. As I have thousands of albums, this allowed me the opportunity to have a massive jukebox collection. As Yahoo took over MusicMatch and became Yahoo Music, the product is a little different now. Gone are my upgrades (I guess my lifetime ended) and gone is the ability to record from vinyl to my computer thru my current stereo (I know that new USB turntables can be purchased, but I don't need one). This leads me to my question "Is there another online service that provides the recording (from vinyl and/or CD) ability that MusicMatch had provided in the past?. If there are others, does anyone know what the best are? Thanks for any help my friends

Pardon me for asking this but what is vinyl? Clarrify that for me and I won't appear to be so blind.

From my understanding... RealPlayer gives the option of recording music played from within the music player, though I'm unsure if you have to subscribe to the Rhapsody music service to record what you play through their given player. Once you record what you had playing for those 5 minutes worth of songs, you should be able to save the files on CD, but I can't confirm that as an option.

I guess what your really asking is what services support Vinyl capabilities, but I don't know what Vinyl is.

Alright there, youngin'...

Vinyl as in old vinyl records...33s and 45s, etc. That old, old, old, old technology of music from even before the time of 8 track and cassette tapes! :)

Have you talked with those yahoos at Yahoo (pun intended)? While it might not get you ability to record your vinyl records back, I would think they should be honoring your "lifetime" of upgrades (unless you were killed and are now part of the undead such as a vampire, which they really are for not honoring what you paid for and trying to suck more blood, aka money, from you, or a zombie !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/
1! ). If you want to make an issue of that, you might try emailing onyourside@pcworld.com] about that issue.

As to the recording your vinyl records, if they have removed that feature, then you will have to find other options...paying for a set of lifetime upgrades does not guarantee a feature set. If your record player goes into an amplifier/receiver that has a standard output, then you can just get some sort of cable that goes from the amp/receiver to the audio in on the computer. Then all you would need is a standard music recording program such as [Audacity
. If you don't have an amplifier/receiver, then you need something to "boost" the output of the turntable as record players are unamplified typically.

Final rites for MMJB?

After installing, and uninstalling (quite vocally) Yahoo's ludicrous "upgrade", I've been valiantly clinging on to MMJB10. But this morning, MM started, showed the splash screen, then vanished into the ether. I even re-installed it a couple of times just to be sure - no dice. Is it Yahoo? Or XP-SP3? Is it REALLY the end of our venerable warhorse?

I've tried Real (even more $$ oriented than Yazzoo), Monkey, Winamp and a handful of others, but I like MMJB's ability to organise, tag and rename music files easily. Any other players I should take a look at?

Realplayer charges 24.00 per month if you want this plus. This was free with Music Match box as a life time member.
