This is my first time here so hopefully this works. I just updated my Norton 360 software to the new version 2. Version 1 included ad-blocking in the add on pack but was removed from version 2 because Norton said there are plenty of ad-blockers available from other sources. I hate ads while web browsing. Does anyone know of an ad-blocker that is compatible with Windows Vista? All that I have found work with XP only it seems.

Hi MWPetty and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

First, I have changed your Discussion title to give a clearer indication of your question. For future reference, please be as descriptive as possible in both the heading of your Discussion as well as the post itself.

Now, Ad Blocking applications are not dependent on the Operating System. They are dependent on the browser that you use. Since you did not tell us what browser you use, I will try to touch on the two most common - Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox - Ad Block Plus - http://adblockplus.org/en/installation

Internet Explorer 7 - Ad Blocker - http://www.ie7pro.com/ad-blocker.html

I do not believe there is an ad-block add-on for Internet Explorer 6.

Hi Mwpetty,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your post about Norton 360 2.0 features. The Ad-Blocking feature is available for Norton 360 2.0 as a free download. Please click on the following link to download the "Norton Ad-On Pack."

Norton Add-on Pack Download

Once you have download and installed this software, open the main Norton 360 console to configure these additional options.

Thank you,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I did download the new add-on pack and I could not find the add blocker. That's when I contacted Norton and received this response:

Thank you for contacting Symantec Technical Support.

I understand from your are unable to find Adblocking feature in Norton 360 version 2.

Before proceeding further, I would like to inform that this version of Norton 360 has several added features that enhance the functionality and user experience. And at the same time, some features from the previous versions have been removed.

Ad-blocking and popup blocking feature has not been included in Norton 360 version 2 Addon pack program.

Symantec decided to discontinue pop-up and ad blocking functions in the Norton Add-on Pack because today's browser toolbars, such as those offered by Yahoo and Google, provide effective pop-up blocking solutions. You can obtain these solutions by visiting the Yahoo or Google web sites and downloading their respective toolbars at no charge.

In addition, the way ads are delivered has evolved on the web so we have removed our legacy desktop client based ad blocking functionality from the Norton Add-on Pack.

One of the main reasons for removal of these feature is low usage. It is also determined that the most annoying forms of Ads and popups are most effectively handled upstream with technologies implemented by the web browsers.

We thank you for your patience and co-operation in this regard.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance to you in using the Symantec product.

Regards,

Devraj
