Hi, I just bought an e-GeForce 8500 GT and I installed it but when I go to Windows it doesnt show that I have a driver installed. I looked in the Device Manager and it was the same built-in Intel Family Chip that came with this computer. I went to the BIOS settings to look around and I couldnt find anything about VGA settings to disable the built-in graphic card.
I dont really think the problem is with the built-in graphic card, but I think the computer is not detecting that I have a graphic card installed at all, and the fan that is on it is working but it doesnt detect the device. Can I get any help? I called EVGA on (888)880-EVGA and it said that i have to check the area code and that the number doesnt exist. So I came to look for forums that might help me and I thought of PC World might help, because i've been visting this site alot as a guest. ;)
BTW, my computer is this computer.

I am going to ask a straightforward question. Did you install the drivers from the CD that came with your graphic card?

I tried, and I tried to download the driver from their website but they both said that they couldnt detect hardware that is compitable with this installation.

Is this a brand new card or is it used? Have you attempted to temporarily install it within another computer? The card itself may be bad.

No I havnt tried it on another compute. And no, its not old its brand new. But the CD has some errors, sometimes it wont read correctly and sometimes doesnt even load, it gave me hard time to even go threw explorer and explore it, it took along time to load.

But yeah I thought its a bad one too, but I'm not sure. Is there a possible way to check except for installing it on another computer?

Not that I am aware of. Since this is brand new, I would not even think twice. Take it back to the store and exchange it for another one. No sense beating yourself up over this.

Im back! Well still bad news. I returened it to the store and I got another one, and it's still not detected! Help!!

Very odd. Let's recap:

- You bought the video card

- Used the CD to install the drivers but that did not work

- Downloaded the drivers from the manufacturer and still nothing

- You attempted to disable the integrated video card through the BIOS (I do not think you have to worry about this step; however, you did not find anything)

- The fan on the video card does spin but the card itself is not recognized



I just called the number that you provided and I got through.

- Are you sure you dialed the right number 888-880-EVGA (888-880-3842)?

- Did you try the card in another available expansion slot?

I am suprised that [~mphenterpises] has not hit what seems to be his typical first thing...power supply.



What is you power supply rating on the computer? Have you looked on the box to see what the minimum power supply required is stated as? According to the eVGA site, it requires a minimum of 350W power supply (400W if you want to use SLI mode).



It could be that it is not getting enough power if you don't have a high enough rated power supply.

Hi SMax. I thought about the Power Supply but I ruled it out. At the very least, the video card should be detected no matter how weak the Power Supply. Granted, if the Power Supply cannot handle the output of the video card, the system will show signs of that, I figured at the very least, the system should recognize the card. I am interested to know what the Nvidia representative told KG.

Maybe...maybe not. I suspect you are right (my 8800GT has a warning that pops up telling me if it is not getting enough power and it is "downgrading" the settings...I have not figured out why that is happening as I have the supplementary 6 pin PCI-E power connection connected and I have an 850W power supply, which should be more than enough...I don't know if it is a false warning or something else), but it is possible that if it is getting such little power that it may not even be able to function properly at all.



My second guess would be some sort of interference with onboard video, but I am not sure that is too likely (unless the onboard video drivers "clash" with the new card).

Hi guys, Ok, this thing has been marked as answered, but I'm going to chime in anyway. I've read through this several times. What I didn't see, and this is important, you have to go into device manager and disable the onboard drivers BEFORE installing the card. Again I didn't see any mention of this being done, only that he had gone onto bios to do it. coastie65

Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.
I
understand from your email, that you are not able to install the
e-GeForce 8500 GT graphics card with Intel 82915G/GV/910GL motherboard
as the graphics card is not recognized by the system.
With
attached device manger screenshot I understand that you have Onboard
graphics adapter (Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family) enabled
on your system. Let me inform you that whenever you install new
graphics card in your system you have to disable on board graphics
adapter. If you do not do this, the system will show as on board
graphics adapter and there could be some conflict with between these
two. You need to go to system BIOS to disable the onboard graphics
adapter. As we have no authorization to troubleshoot any system
hardware issues, so you need to contact your system or motherboard
manufacturer for this concern. Once you done with this then please try
installing the graphics card driver.
Please let me know if your issue has been resolved.

Hi Khaldon, To disable the onboard drivers, Go to device manager, Right click on graphics adapters ( Should show the onboard graphics) and then click on disable. It will probably give you a message something to the effect that your system wont run properly, just click OK. Once that is done, then you can shut down the system and unplug the power cable from the PSU. Open up the computer and install your new card. Close up the computer replug the power cable and move the Monitor cable to the adapter on the new card. Start up the computer and you should get a new hardware detected message. You shouldn't have any anti virus running or spyware apps when installing the drivers as they may interfer with the installation. coastie65

I dont know, but there is something wrong with the phone service over here or something. I called Sony 916-377-7000 and it gives me the same message as if im calling EVGA, weird...

So I can't really call Sony either for support because its not working. And I think the problem is with VGA thing that i've seen alot of people talking about, the one that I have to fix from the BIOS but the problem is that its not there! Adn NVIDIA told me to contact Sony and i'm not able to. I don't know what else to do :|

I'm still looking around on the internet and I havn't seen anyone having the same problem that I am.

But I found this while im searching Google about Sony BIOSes. http://www.wimsbios..../topic6154.html He is talking about "hidden" features in his BIOS because its OEM and Sony flashed it, so I don't know, maybe that has to do with my BIOS too. And if you all need some screen shots of my BIOS, I could use my camera to take some and show them to you.

Lol I already tried all that, and sadly it didn't work. And if I plug my Monitor cable to the adapter on the new card it doesn't even show anything! It just blank black screen. Although, I'm sure that my computer is running because there is something wrong with my RAM, but that's a different story, and it beeps every time I boot up the computer, twice.

That might be a good option to try if you are willing. Maybe it is there and you are just not seeing it (sometimes when you are "too close" to the situation, you miss obivous things...I have one more than one occasion been looking and looking at some thing and cannot find what I need and someone just walks up and smuggly goed "there it is"...of course, when that happens you have to resist the urge to smack the smugness out of the person even if you are grateful that they helped).
