Archiving Within Windows XP

in windows xp, (advanced properties of file or folder) there are 4 checkboxes-


folder is ready for archiving
index this folder
compress
encrypt


my question is this- what does archiving do the file/folder?

my question is this- what does archiving do the file/folder?

When your are in that dialog box, click on the little "?" button in the upper right hand corner (which will turn the cursor into a ?) and then click on the "Folder is ready for archiving" area. You should get this "help" explanation box:
