Help,

I purchased a duplex accessory for my hp 3210 all-in-one. In XP it printed fine when I wanted to use duplex feature. In Vista it prints but flips the page so that it is upside down. Kinda hard to read. Why does same printer work fine with XP but can't work with new Vista desktop? I have reinstalled the hp software, NO HELP! Maybe someone out there has had same issue? Thanks

You can change that in properties. There are two modes of printing - portrait (it prints down the long way) where the top is 8.5" and the sides are 11" and landscape (prints down the short way) so that the top is 11" wide and the sides are 8.5". PC World Magazine is printed in portrait mode.

That being said, there are two different ways of flipping the page, up or over. Some drivers use the term short edge and long edge.

If you are printing in portrait mode, and you flip over (or on the long edge), it is printed so the pages turn to the left as in a book. This is the most common for this mode.

If you are printing in portrait mode, and you flip up (or on the short edge), it is printed so the pages flip bottom to top as in a legal document.

If you are printing in landscape and you flip over (or on the short edge now), it is printed so the pages turn to the side as in some sales brochures.

If you are printing in landscape and you flip up (or on the long edge now), it is printed so the pages flip up as in a presentation book.

All of these are adjusted by adjusting the properties. When you select print, Windows opens up a print dialog box and the name of the printer is in a white panel near the top. Next to that should be a "PROPERTIES" button. Clicking on the button allows you to adjust the paper direction (portrait or landscape) and whether you print duplex or not, and if duplex the way it flips.

You should be able to set the default properties of the printer by accessing the printer folder from the control panel, selecting the printer and then selecting properties.

RGreen,

Thanks for the help but it still won't do it. In the properties it shows booklet and when you try to press 1 page, it defaults back to 2 pages printed on one. It shows a booklet picture but still prints upside down. This is OS/VISTA. As I said earlier, OS/XP same printer, prints duplex fine. Something in Vista is overriding the HP software.

I tried to go onto HP's website to do some research, but you haven't given me enough info. I need more than 3120. Is this a Laserjet, Officejet, Deskjet, Photosmart?

Also is there a C in front of the number?

Hi rgreen4,

Thanks for trying to help. This is an HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-one. Per rec. from techs at HP, I erased old software and reloaded. The printer works fine in XP and prints in duplex in booklet form. In OS/VISTA it flips the page when printing in duplex. I have also downloaded the SP 1 patch for Vista too.

Hi there.

I have the same problem as you. It worked well with XP but now when I got a new computer with Vista the same problem showed up.

I´ve been in contact with the HP-support here in sweden and they tried to solve my problem but finally they gave up and mailed me that this has something to do with the drivers and that Hp are working to try and solve it. Still I haven´t find any new drivers at there homepage so I don´t think they have a high priority in finding a solution to this.

Pomocnik - if you have the solution, please post it in this discussion. If it is a download, you can post a link. The discussion on Vistaheads is an old one dated in mid February of last year and the current HP driver was released in March of last year.

I was remiss in not saying Welcome to the PC World community. Apparently you have already helped the first member.

i write you mail when we will be on way to north.

save that file, because Vista SP1 revert changes to original gpd file. in that case only repeat whole process
and now I wish you happy duplex printing /i know how great it was when duplex started work for me/
