By the way:
After I got the system working again, I clicked on the "Update" button as advised by Panda - but NO new update was there...
However, I remember that AFTER Panda completely FUBAR'ed my system, and I was trying to figure what the was going on, Panda had casually jumpd in and done an update WHILE my system having it's spazz attack.
That means that it did NOT check for an update before it ran the first scan on my system.
Now it seems to me, quite logically, that Panda SHOULD always have a new install check for updaes BEFORE running the first scan.
But, hey, that's just me being logical again - I can be such a pain! :)
Last update:
After doing a little more checking, it looks like I really DID have the NUwar worm, as reported by Panda. It seems I got it via an emailed link to a YouTube video.
However, I think Panda's deletion of WININET.dll, without warning, may have been rather "inelegant"...
Glad I'm clean, tho.
Panda AV just deleted Wininet.dll & mseo.dll

This topic was a big help to me today. When Panda wiped out my wininet.dll today, I couldn't get to anything but the internet and I assume that's because I use Firefox. I waited on the phone with Panda for nearly 40 minutes before I could even get to a tech who informed me this was a "rare" problem. Not! I started searching the net and found this topic and began trying the solutions.
I tried system restore, but like some others it wouldn't complete.
I downloaded a new wininet.dll and put it in system32 wininet.dll folder. Because I couln't get windows explorer to work, I had to work around by opening Firefox, click on "save as" and when the window opened, I clicked on "all files" in the file type dropdown list. Then I changed the name of the old file and saved the new one, closed Firefox, and rebooted. But it didn't work.
I used the same system to go to the restore partition and find a copy of wininet there as I thought perhaps the one I downloaded was not working for some reason. I copied and pasted into the same system32 folder. Then I realized what might be wrong. I don't think anyone here mentioned this. My original copy of the dll was in a folder named the same as the file. The dll I coped from the system partition wasn't. So I renamed the folder and placed the dll directly in the system32 folder, rebooted, and it worked at last.
I gather from what I have read that different computers must have been affected differently. I have a Dell Dimension E521. Perhaps this might be of help to someone.
And a big thanks to all those who shared their solutions.

hi there, i've come through the same problem where the panda AV has deleted my wininet.dll.
so, i found and downloaded a new wininet.dll and replaced in my system32 folder.
but, once i had reboot my pc, it said that my windows explorer has stopped working and need to be restarted; but no matter how many times i click the "restart the program" button, it still doesn't work.
i can't get through anything except for Task Manager.
so what can i do to solve this problem? can anyone help?
i am using Vista Home Basics with 1G RAM.
thx for reply~!

Hey EviLinMoon!!
If you can, go to, Start, Run ,(or search box) and type in "msconfig" press enter.
If msconfig shows up , you will see at the bottom of the "General Tab" Execute System restore,
or something very similar.
Try a System Restore.
It has not worked for some that have tried it but, it seems that not every computer has the same reaction to this
