The problem with migration from Windows to GNU/Linux (more accurate name of "Linux") is not one of functionality or even ease of use. I have been a GNU/Linux user since 2001 (PCW clued me into Linux). Even in 2001 I had less trouble adapting to GNU/Linux than to Mac when I needed to use a Mac for a couple of months. I am no more comfortable using the command line than any typical user of any OS. I'm just a user. Where I work I am required to use Windows. In 7 yrs I have had no trouble moving files back and forth from work to home. Open Office has dealt with Microsoft Office files without any problems. At home I do everything people typically do with computers at home and perhaps a bit more. The only issue I have had is Microsoft IE centric websites and I have not cared enough about to run IE under a Windows emulator. Driver issues are dealt with by buying compatible hardware. There simply is no significant issue to migrating to GNU/Linux other than attitude.

You mention OpenSuse but not the Fedora Project?
"The Fedora Project is maintained and driven by the community and sponsored by Red Hat."

tro511, that's a fair comment. Novell makes a little bit more of a point of "claiming" OpenSuse than Red Hat does Fedora -- in my experience, Red Hat tries to distance itself from Fedora whenever it can. Case in point, the fact that Red Hat says it's only interested in developing "client" Linux systems, not desktop Linux. But folks who want to check out Fedora should certainly click on over to http://fedoraproject.org

Unless you are trying to install it on an already existing laptop with a non-supported wireless. Then you must either spend more money to find a "supported" wireless add in card, or do what I did, which is to simply keep using Windows XP.
