I know this is a column for people that are really into hi-tech home entertainment, but the tone of the article bothers me. "I want, I want" commercials, articles, et al. remind me of a three year old yelling at mommy in the candy aisle of the supermarket.
Also, talking about having to take your Zune from room to room as if it's a hardship also seems awfully frivolous.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but complaining that you can't have every little thing "where you want, when you want it" just tells me how spoiled many people have become.
I do however, agree with the part about the mess of wires that today's computer and entertainment systems have created. There needs to be a better way.

Home audio/video technology is just like anything else in this world: the possibilities are ENDLESS....for the right price! You don't want to carry your Zune around the house? Well then buy a Crestron Adagio Entertainment System, an Audio Server along with a wall-mounted touch pad for 2-way feedback for around $15,000. You can control the audio sources in each room independently and even see the album cover art, genre, artists, song title, etc. Want HD Video distribution throughout the house? Add a BluRay and Crestron Matrix system for an extra $5000 more plus cables/wires and labor. The fact of the matter is that wireless technology is totally unreliable when transmitting such huge amounts of data at long distances. WIRED is the way to go and you'll never go wrong....unless you wire it wrong. Now that's a separate subject.

LOL, how does it feel to want something in the world? If you want something, you MUST be WILLING to pay money. I don't need wireless equipment enough that it bothers me to death and I'm certainly not going to spend $5,000 for a system. I will look for cheaper, more affordable ways.

A little sarcasm never hurt anyone, but taking it seriously makes you sound at least over zealous. Come on! Give us all a break!

I've been using a $60 answer to providing computer-streamed audio anywhere I want in my home or in the immediate vicinity. The only limit here is whether or not you can build an audio kit. I bought a low-power FM transmitter 6 years ago as a kit. Built it and a power supply; deposited it in a chassis box; bought a replacement car antenna for the antenna and connected it to the audio output from my computer. I can listen to the output from the transmitter on any FM radio in my house, and, therefore the streaming audio of my choice - especially Pandora, KJZZ, WBGO and WGMC. I'll keep this setup until someone (finally) comes up with a low cost audio and video - wireless - alternative.
