I hope that you all read my thank yous--very helpful. got me looking more and reading more reviews and thinking more about what I need. I was unable to find the Latitude D430--if Dell makes it, I'm not seeing it, or maybe I missed something.

The Dell Inspiron is looking pretty good for me--I think. But I have some questions:

What is Vista and how does is compare to Windows XP?

I don't think I need Bluetooth--can you tell me why I would?

I want ultralight(under 5 lbs), sturdy and easy to use, no gaming required, probably at least 160 GB HD-- and maybe even up to 320--I want to be able to store lots of Data from my POS system at work and two novels I am writing. I NEED long battery life and fairly light weight for travel (and probably durability) I think I'm looking at a 9 cell battery to get that long life.

Anyone heard about the new Toshiba Portege series? I would pay up to 2000$ to get what I want

I think I'd be fine with a 12-15" screen. And this may seem like a dumb question--but what is a notebook compared to a tablet?

Is anti-glare screen important?

Touch screen?

I'm really trying to understand more about what I really need/ don't need vs what is actually available--I guess I could customize, if I knew what to ask for exactly.

thanks again,

Paula
