Hi
When I start my pc during start up I am getting error like "Error while unpacking program, code LP5.Please report to author". Even If I restart I am getting the same error. Any body knows the solution for this error please let me know. My OS is Windows XP. And I am using AVG Anti Virus and Lavasoft Anti Spyware software.

Thanks
Ram

Hi and welcome to the forums :) ,

First to clarify a few things, are you receiving this error when you log into Windows or does this error show as a screen before Windows boots up? I am getting the sense that your claims are for the startup, but I have to check.

Secondly, the error may be specific to a program failing to run at start-up.

Hi
No. Its just came during the windows startup like msn, my wireless network etc. But no problem with the other programs. Still I can able to surf the net, go to my mapped network drives etc. Only thing every time I am getting this error message when I switch on the computer.

My only conclusion is you have a corrupted program that didn't successfully install and is set to run when Windows boots up. The issue here would be that if the program is corrupted, you will see an error every time Windows starts up. This may not be the problem, but this is all I can suggest.

Are you able to run the live-update automatically for AVG AntiSpyware and Lavasoft AntiSpware? It may be that both programs are trying to update their definitions during Windows start-up but are failling; nevertheless, you are receiving the error.

What service pack are you running?

Hi Ramji and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

Believe me, you are going to one day come to love Google, Yahoo, or any search engine. This is a new error message to me so, like a good tech savvy person, I went straight to Google and did a search.

It seems, as Techie mentioned, that this error message is linked to some application...in your case, during startup. The primary culprit is any security application. The first suggestion I would have for you is to go into the System Configuration Utility and disable any security application that normally boots during startup. If you are not sure how to do this, follow these steps:

- Click Start -> Run

- Type msconfig and hit OK

- Click on the Startup tab

- Remove the check mark from any process that is related to any security application you use

- Click Apply and then OK (You will be prompted to restart your computer.)

If you have questions as to what processes should be turned off during start up, please post. You can also just disable each security application from starting during restart.

Either way, when you restart your computer, verify that you do not see the error message. If you do not, systematically enable each previously disabled security application and then restart the computer each time. For example, if you use Zone Alarm, AVG Anti-Virus, and AVG Anti-Spyware and all three boot during startup, disable all three, restart the computer, confirm the error message does not appear, enable one of the listed applications, restart the computer, etc.
