First, I have changed your Discussion title to give a clearer indication of your question. For future reference, please be as descriptive as possible in both the heading of your Discussion as well as the post itself.
Now, I have some questions for you:
- For what purpose are you using DVD Shrink?
- Do you get any messages from DVD Shrink when this occurs?
- Are you sure you are using DVD+/- R(W) discs?
- Have you tried a different brand of DVD or a different disc?

Are you using DVD-R or are you using DVD+R.
What king of file are you trying to shrink.
Have you tried another program than shrink
This might be the problem, Maybe your burner doesn't recognize Shrink
as a legitimate program.
This program is a alternative to DVD Shrink
ImgBurn .
This is the new version which we have been waiting on for about one year now.
I personally haven't yet tried the new version but , have used
the old version with success every time I used it.
I am now using a Paid For program called:
VSO ConvertxtoDVD
I will admit that it is a little expensive at $49 Canadian but,
there hasn't been a file that I can't burn to DVD .
It does EVERYTHING with this one program.
Shrink , Convert and Burn in one swoop.
It will also tell you if the file you want to burn
is intact and burnable.
It will burn in either widesceen or normal screen
also burn to PAL ( Europe and Asia )
or NTSC ( North America )
If you would like to check out this site

You will probably find something on this site to help you with your projects.
If you need any other info. , post back and will see what we can do to help out.

discs to keep the orginal from damage.

That is not true. Depending on the type of DVD file you are burning, you can use any application. That being said, what exactly are you trying to keep from damage?

The basic difference is that a RW (Rewritable) will allow multi burns on the same disc. This function is technically available with a R disc; however, that process is done within the application itself.
