I've recently come across a problem with my windows xp in which the computer will not enter stand by mode any longer. When I press stand by from the shut down menu, the computer acts as though it is going into stand by, but then the fans kick back on and every thing else remains running. When I try to use the mouse/keyboard to correct the problem, I can't (it appears the screen freezes, but can still transition into screensaver). This may be because I use a wireless keyboard/mouse, and the stand by has disabled it. Anyway, I have to result to holding the power button to completely turn it off.
I believe this problem started after I installed .Net 2.0. I tried to uninstall it to correct the problem, but it didn't seem to change anything.
Any quick fixes or ideas?
