Hey Jammer!!

No hurry , take your time and ask as many questions as you like . This should make you more comfortable

installing or working with the programs that we suggests.

Ok, before I answer your questions , You did not answer mine fully.

ARE the blue screens and errors a result of you installing SP3.

In other words . have the blue screens started directly after installing SP3.

If so well, your problem might well be with the installation of the SP3.

By all accounts it is not ready to be installed.

Yes, some were successful in installing the SP3 pack but, only

after doing certain procedures BEFORE installing it on their PCs.

OK , to answer your questions

#1 - Since you agree with me that SM4 is not to be recommended,

I would simply uninstall this program.

#2 - If you choose to keep this SM4 on your PC , there will be NO CONFLICTS

with CCleaner . Posted ImageDownload CCleaner now...

#3 - If you choose to uninstall SM4 you will then also need a Defrag Utility

My suggestion and the one that I use is JKDegrag by Jeroen Kessels .

JkDefrag-3.34.zip

It will look a little weird at first but, you will get the hang of it after looking at it closely.

This is a very good defragmenter.

#4 - Everest is a benchmarking utility, useful for numbers but, not so useful if you

want to know what your PC is made of and with which components.

When we want to know , we turn to BelArc Advisor .

This application will tell you everything that you have on your PC. I mean all hardware and even the

Microsoft Patches that are missing from your PC . This is another one of those apps. that

most of us here use. Download Belarc Advisor .

#5 - You are concerned that you will have to uninstall McAfee. well, don,t be. This is a what we call

a "Stand-Alone" scanner and does not have "Sheilds" to cause any conflicts with other installed

security programs. So. DO NOT UNINSTALL any of your security programs.

Simply install this one Download from Malwarebytes.org . Once install click on the

"UPDATE" tab at the top of the application, and once updated do a full scan the first time.

This might take a while I'd say about 45 to 60 minutes.

OK Jammer ,

Remember , YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DISABLE OR UNINSTALL ANY OF YOUR PROGRAMS.

But, also Remember to CREATE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE YOU START CLEANING

WITH CCLEANER OR ANY OTHER CLEANING APPLICATIONS.

So , if you have any other questions post back.

Don't forget to answer MY questions too.

System Mechanic works fine... but - like everything in life - you need to use the right version

The current version is 7.5 and version 8 will be launching very soon

Using version 4 is like making coffee with milk that is 6 months old

In your situation, the advice is obvious:-

1) BACK UP YOUR DATA

2) Consider a complete re-install

There are a load of tweaks and change syou can try - but it will take you a while

Hard drives are really cheap these days - so why not think 'To hell with this - let me start again!'

You can always have your current drive installed as a data drive - so you (probably) won't lose anything

Imagine... nice/clean/new drive - with FRESH install of the OS

You can get AVG v8 (free), Spyware terminator (free), SpyBot Search & Destroy (free) and System Mechanic 8 on there...

...with all of the latest patches and fixes...

...maybe even put more memory (also REALLY CHEAP THESE DAYS)...

...and have a 'flying machine'

Whatever you decide - good luck :)

[~60096] . (OFF THE TOP TOPIC) I hope I don't ask too much of free stuff.

Does Malwarebyte have real time protection..? will it work along side with Avast...?

Thanks.

Hey Tech!!

No it does not have "sheilds" but does have a built in protection monitor
that blocks malicious processes.

This is not a shield but more protection from malware. This is a very good Antimalware Application.

It is a 'ON Demand " scanner . It is a free app. although you can purchase. I don't really know

what the paid for App. gives more.

Yes, it will work alongside any other security application.

Avast is a AntiVirus app. This one is a malware scanner. So, no problem.

This is a link to MalwareBytes.org . They have a few other very

interesting safety applications and malware removal tools.

As with any malware removal tool , you have to be VERY careful to read all of the directions on

HOW to use them.

Is this what you were asking for Tech?

Heilsa!
I have been doing the thing with my family and the kiddos! I have finally gotten a chance to reply and do some of the stuff you all have suggested. I have installed the CCleaner, RougeRemover and Belarc Advisor. I already had Belarc on Cd and I just ran a JKDefrag the other day. The answer to your question Flashorn is yes it has been just after the installation of Sp3 too that this situation started. But I checked out this link provided here:

www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/05/13/xp[usp3[/u]microsoftblamesoems/]

and I do not see anything within Belarc or Everest that says anything about an AMD Processor and I do have an Intel chipset I believe it is called. I do have the HP though. Oh, what about reinstalling the Sp3 with the bigger ISO download and install provided in the above link if you think it is the Sp3? Anyway, I am going to use the CCleaner and the RougeRemover now and I will post what has been found and done.

Heilsa!

Well I ran the CCleaner set almost exactly as you had it. A little different, as you have some stuff that I didn't. It did its thing. I ran the RougeRemover and it did not find anything. Is the situation with the Hp, the AMD and the Intel have to do with having all 3 or does it purtain to having any one of the 3. And I heard Hp put out a patch for that? I looked the situation up again and did a litte deeper study. It is really not exactly the same situation as mine. It is an endless reboot situation and mine is not. I also looked up that patch HP put out and the requirements for it are the AMD. I have a Celeron. What other suggestions would you all make. Don't know if that cleaning did anything? Have to wait and see as it does not do it all the time! Thanks again for being so precise on your explanations and usage of the recommended programs Flashorn!

Hey Jammer!!

OK, I don't think this is an infection. It certainly looks like SP3 is having issues.

This does look like a default driver issue.

What is connected to your PC ?

Printer , Mouse (optical, lazer), Keyboard , External Hard Drive , ect.....

Try removing one of the above and then the other to see if it might be one of those

that could need a driver up-date to work with XP SP3 .

One more suggestion or question . Do you have

"D.E.P. ( Data Execution Prevention ) turned on ?

If you don't know what it is , that's fine . This means that you did not turn it on .

But, if you do have D.E.P. turned on , I would suggest you turn it off.

The last suggestion , you will probably not like, is to Uninstall SP3 .

We are pretty sure that SP3 is the cause of your Blue Screens.

You don't have to have a AMD or HP for SP3 to behave badly.

If you do uninstall SP3 .

Go to the ADD/REMOVE program in XP and uninstall from there.

OR, if you have a RESTORE POINT that is "BEFORE" you installed SP3

you should start with that.

One more thing, Did you scan your PC using "MalwareBytesAntiMalware".

If you did , what were the results.

Well, Jammer , I can't think of anything else , and from what I have read

on other forums and even on the

MicroSoft Help and Support forums , there are numerous posts with

problems with SP3.

Here is a link that you might want to read through just in case I missed something.

Microsoft Help and Support .

So, try the last steps and see if anyone of them work.

Whether or not they work , post back and let me know.

Heilsa!

Flashorn, it has been awhile now since this issue has service. I have rebooted many times and everything seems to fine. That doesn't mean that it is resolved and if so don't know how. But it was not doin it all the time before, rather regularly, but still not all the time. I am going to leave this discussion open for now and investigate the situation further. I will try a few things but I am not really to keen on uninstalling Sp3. That and a full sytsem over haul or restore are the last options as far as I am concerned as like I said it hasn't done it for a good long time now. We'll see though! I will get back to you all and tell you everything that I try and find out. But like I stated before I can't just uninstall stuff to check and see if that is what is causing it as it doesn't do it all the time and hasn't for a long time. How do I tell if it is a device or a driver if I unistall it and reboot and it doesn't do it. That won't show me anything as it might just be acting right normally. Kind of caught between a rock and a hard place. Thank you again "Jesper's blog" and the microsoft links. Like I said I will check out somethings and get back to you all on this issue.

Hey jammer!!

Nice to hear from you. I was wondering if something had gone very wrong.

But, it seems that you are doing well , and I'm glad for you.

You do not have to uninstall any of your peripherals attached to your PC.

Simply disconnect one at a time to see if the services and drivers used by that

peripheral has any impact on operating SP3.

In other words , if you disconnect ,say, your printer and keep working with your PC

and no blue screen appears for a while then , it might be that a new version of a

driver is needed.

Keep doing this with all of the attached peripherals you normally use.

I am looking forward to hearing on how things are work out for you Jammer.

Do keep us in the loop.

Heilsa!

I am running CCleaner for the second time, it udated to a newer version, (not the concern here though), and I noticed that it has in the cleaning applications option office 97. Well I don't have 97 on this PC. I have 2000. Yes outdated but never the less its 2000. I was wondering why it didn't pick up the 2000 version instead. Ok, I was also wondering about the types of files that it is wanting to delete as I did an analysis first and this what it wants to delete.

What are ini, dat, RDF, LNK, ste, qtch, xml, sol(on this sol having to do with the macromedia stuff they have nothing to do with any upgrades or patches do they?), cfg, hst, idx, and do I want to delete them? Do I want to, and is it safe to delete everything that is here? My MS Photodraw wouldn't work after the last time I used this cleaner but I don't really no if it ever really worked on this PC in the first place as I use another a couple of other photo editting apps. and the only Photodraw files made from me were from Photodraw another PC, I think. But I did want it and went to use it after the cleaning and it wouldn't even open. So I uninstalled it reinstalled it over and over again to no avail. But that is over with I just left it uninstalled. My question is can I delete all of the above? Thank you!

Hey Jammer!!

I'm so sorry I didn't get to you any earlier. I didn't read my e-mails today and by the

time I got in the forum your post got pushed off to the third page and did not see it.

OK, the files that CCleaner wants to delete are safe to delete. A desktop.ini file

is a file that Windows generates whenever you change something on your PC.

Like add a program or you customize a program. It is a file that is duplicated from the original file

in the protected files. This kind of file will come back whether you delete or not. It will eventually

take allot of space on your HDD if they are not deleted once in a while.

To put your mind at ease, lets use the ATF Cleaner like Spirit suggested. It will only delete files

like ,Internet Temporary files and Flash Files and Macromedia files and Java files which should not stay on your PC .

So, here is the link to download the ATF Cleaner.

ATF Cleaner by Atribune.org .

This little app. will not install , it is only an .exe and you just double click on the .exe and then put a check mark next to

Select All,

click on the Empty Selected.

It is a VERY safe cleaner and only takes a few seconds to run.

So, Jammer , how is that machine of yours behaving? Are you still getting Blue Screens

or is the PC working properly.

You have to inform me once in a while right?

Talk to you latter Jammer.

Be careful using System Mechanic. It has gotten very mixed reviews in the past, and its registry cleaner is especially dangerous. I tried it years ago (before I knew better), and ended up having to reformat my hard drive. I found out later that many users had experienced the same types of problems that I had (corrupted registry and files). I have found that CCleaner does a good job of cleaning out useless files, but don't use its registry repair utility... In fact, unless it's absolutely necessary, don't use ANY registry repair utility unless you know exactly what you're deleting. Also, be careful when deleting duplicate files. Some system files are duplicated, and if those duplicates are removed, will cause your system to become unstable, or even unusable in some cases. I don't think that there would be a conflict between System Mechanic and CCleaner since neither is active until you actually manually run their respective utilities.

Heilsa!

Yes, had already used the ATF Cleaner on another PC so I had it on CD already, just used it. As far as SM4 goes I was only using it for the cleanup options and defragmenting RAM. I do anything to my registry unless I am 110% sure of what I am doing and it is needed, wanted and useful. I used the defrag. and other stuff provided with SM4 on the kids PC and it totally screwed everything up had to do a system restore. It didn't matter on it though as I was going to have to format the hard drive and reinstall the OS on it eventually anyway.

Flashorn, it was doing great but then it happened again. I can't see unhooking anything from it as it doesn't do it but every once in awhile and everything is working A-OK. How am I going to tell if it is the device or the software or driver if it isn't going to do it everytime I reboot? Anyway, everything is working fine like I said. So if it doesn't interfear with anything on a major scale then I will just wait and see if someone just happens to know of a for sure way to find out what software, driver or device is doing it and go from there.

Hey Jammer!!

Good , nice to hear from you!

One question I don't think I asked. Is your Hard Drive very old and is it making any noise.

It might also be that it wants to die on you but , that is just a thought. If it's good for now then

we will just let it go at that.

Talk to you soon, Jammer.

Heilsa!

The PC itself is rather old so I imagine the hard-drive is too. It is not making any noise. I thought everything was fine until these past couple of days. I tried to install some software that mom wanted called "America Past and Present". Not to old, it said compatible with Xp, so I went for it. Well it install some old java and then when I went to run the program it seized up. So uninstalled it and then did a system restore to the day before and thats when it started the blue screen stuff again. Its done it twice since then. But hadn't done it for quite some while. Still stumped in this situation!

Been there twice myself and the last time I re-formatted my hard drive and started over from scratch. I can put you on to the clue that will see you return

your system to it's old self. The line - "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" refers to the order in which the IRQLs load into memory on boot up. But the way to correct this is to check every driver that you have installed until you find the outdated driver! Mine was the same both times - the nVidia MX550 GeForce Video Card. When you boot up and the BIOS screen appears, quickly memorize the order in which the IRQLs load. Then after you have updated the driver file that is causing the stop ERROR - make a digital photograph of the BIOS screen so that you can quickly spot trouble.

Hi,

Thats a nice program to give you that info.

Could you please post a link to where you downloaded it?

I am no expert with this here but I googled the driver that was blamed by your program.

It said a shorted keyboard cable can cause this or ntoshkrnl is missing or corrupt.

Here's the link from one of the google links. Hope it is accurate and helps.
