Just last week, May 23rd, I saw a retailer selling a full version of XP HOME for $87. A good deal considering it normally goes for $150. As far as I can see, this is a ploy by M$ to get everyone to switch to the much flawed and poorly supported VISTA. I will still continue to use XP as M$ has not provided the support and proper source codes to the third party vendors so they can write the correct drivers for their peripheral hardware. Apparently M$ thinks their drivers are good enough and the users are very ticked off that while everything works fine with XP but refuses to even be recognized by VISTA has driven them to wipe out VISTA and reinstall XP so their printers, video, sound cards and USB devices will work properly. To me, until M$ releases a functioning piece of software I will stick with what works, regardless of their support, which is lacking for the new stuff, so why change.

I have Vista Home Premium on one machine and Vista Ultimate on another and everything, yes everything works perfectly. Even the printer is recognized without loading any drivers. My Vista installations are solid as a rock and I would have no reason whatsoever to go back to XP.

By all means force people onto a horribly broken OS so they get so disgusted with Microsoft they jump to Apple or Ubuntu. What a stroke of genius!

I have no issues with vista and i been running it on vmware. so far so good. I be jumping to vista 64 before this week ends. So no big deal for me. And for the record i don't like Linux. I was messing around with ubuntu the whole day and i only like it enough to run it on virtual machine but not enough to be on my actual system. Windows will be on my main system.

Newsflash!
I had a brand new HP Laptop C2D2.00 with 2 GB Ram 512 MB Video
7200 rpm drive with Vista 64 bit Business and it ran fine!
I was shocked and amazed
I think I will try the business version on the PC I currently have Ultimate on and see how it goes, that machine is useless right now

Hi mjd, That is good to hear as I am still squirreling away copies of XP. There are a lot of XP users out there that either 1) don't have the computer to run Vi$ta and can't afford to buy a new one or 2) Are happy with XP and just flat out have no interest in running Vi$ta ( Me for one ). I suspect after the end of the month, there will ultimately be a shot fired across Micro$oft's bow pertaining to XP, to the point they may rethink their posistion. coastie65

Thanks to these new, low-cost desktops that are coming out now, the reports of XP's demise are greatly exaggerated. HOORAY!!!
If I were forced into using an OS other than XP, I think I MIGHT switch to Linux, or MAYBE Apple. Fortunately, I still have an XP OS CD, so if I were to get a new computer (which I fortunately don't need right now) with Vista pre-installed, I'd just dump Vista and install XP. I have NO interest in Vista WHATSOEVER. For one thing, it costs a bundle with all the upgrading you have to do to accommodate it, and for the most part, Vista's nothing but whiz-bang graphics and gimmickry and I don't do gimmickry. Just let me get on the Internet, send/receive e-mails, and do word processing, that's all I want; I don't need Vista for that. The only thing about Vista that would make me recommend it is if you have kids, because I've read in a number of sources that Vista's parental controls are superior to XP's. So, if you have kids, go with Vista.
