Hi again, everybody!

I don't know what's going on, but for the past couple of months my Snipping Tool hasn't been Snipping very well. The Snips come out kind of blurry, or you can't hardly read them. :(

So I was wondering if you have any suggestions for a Free Screencapture Program? I would like to have one that you can make notes to whatever it is you capture.

Thanks for all your assistance! :D

Hey Adama!!

Ok. just before I say goodnight, I have a few places for you to look over in case you find something you like.

The only snipping tool I have and use is:

Brian Scott's Cropper . It doesn't have the options that you are looking for but , just in case.

Next , I found this sorta fix for the Vista snipping tool from a competitor :

A. Vista's screenshot-snipping tool may simply be turned off,
or it may be turned on and Windows is ignoring it. Launch Programs and
Features from Vista's Control Panel. Click the link Turn Windows
features on or off at left. Find the Tablet PC Optional Components box.
If it's not checked, check it and click OK. If it is checked, click to
uncheck it, click OK, then click to check it again and click OK.
Turning it off and on again shouldn't do anything, but apparently it
jogs Vista's memory. It's like smacking an old radio on the side to fix
it!

I don't know if this will do the trick but, worth a try .

This is a place to search for and download all kinds of apps. and tools.

AFTERDAWN.com .

Another place I love for freeware is

Gismo's tech Support alert .

Last on my list for tonight is DonationCoder. I don't know if you still have the details that I sent you before

but, I will send you a PM with them again in a few minutes.

DontionCoder.com

OK, the page you will come to when you click on the link for DonationCoder , you will see a

Black Cat. Right next to it is a Capture Tool. I didn't have time to look it over but, you can do that.

OK,Adama , I'll PM you know.

I don't know what you mean by "Snipping" but I use Screenshot Pilot when I want to take multiple pictures at once. The only con to is for each picture you take, you then have to manually name and then save each on your machine. If you don't save them immediately, you'll end up loosing them all once the power goes out in your home.

Snipping tool is among the best out there. Whats the problem with that ?
There is actually nothing wrong with the snipping tool . The same problem will be encountered with other tools also. A few questions for you first before you dump the snipping tool.

* Do the blurry snips come up only on pcw forums ?
* Are the snips are blurry only when they are greater than 600X450 pixels ?

[~80073] . I use faststone capture....ITs so simple to use.....you can even pick your format for the snip you take...It come with PNG by default.

www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm Or you can get it from PCW in download page.

Hi Adama. Your snips are fine. When you submit a snip, the blurriness you see is just a condensed version. If someone clicks on the image, it will be expanded.

To test this theory, submit a snippet so we can all test it.

If you're running windoze, just hit 'Prt Screen' to copy a screen image into the clipboard, and then paste into Paint (or any other image editing tool) and crop what you want. If you use Alt-Prt Screen, it will copy an image only of the focused window.

The functionality has been there built into Windoze for a long, long time.

Short of needing to capture screen animations, I just don't know why people write screen capture apps. Just one more nasty, redundant leech among the hundreds of such useless things that get installed in Windows, I suppose. BTW, if you need to capture animations, you can run under VMware and even get animated screen captures of anything, even DOS based setup screens. VirtualBox will let you get stills of that sort of thing, too.

Under Ubuntu, you get a popup with a preview prompting to save the image somewhere when you hit the Prt Screen button on the keyboard.

Which is why I found it as such an inconvenience. If you use something besides the pluck Windows offers, you are generally given many MORE options than just the "prt screen" save to clipboard and save.

Adama, did you figure out what you are looking for?

Hi Flash,

Thank you for all the great links! HAAA, you always come up with the best information, links to them, and specific info. Plus on top of all that you're a real nice guy!

1! I hereby re-name you INFOMAN!

Anyway, I checked all the links, and they all look really good (except for the Gizmo Tech Support alert, which took me to a StumbleUpon page and I do not go anywhere near Stumble, because I had a lot of problems with them last year.)

I checked DonationCoder and the screencapture program that they have does have a way for you to use clipart to enter text, arrows, etc., so it all looked really cool.

Thanks again, Flash er.... Infoman! --- :x

Hi TFF,

"Snipping" is when you use the Snipping Tool that comes with Win Vista to take a screenshot/screencapture. I've been using it relentlessly without any problems since I learned to use it. But then I come back here and when I go to post a Snip, it all looks squished and almost unreadable. X-(

Thanks for the link to the Screenshop Pilot, it looks like a really cool program. So that's how you were able to give me all those screenshots at once when you were showing me how to create a PB account, huh? :^0

Hi Piyush,

Yes, the Snipping Tool is outstanding. Like I told TFF I use it relentlessly - always - and just because you have not experienced any problems with it doesn't mean that other people aren't having problems with it. And NO, I do not plan on dumping it, but to answer your questions:
* I don't use it in another forum, so Yes, it seems like the Snips come out blurry only on PCW.

* I don't know about the pixel sizes of the Snips.

Thanks for your help, Piyush.

Hey Adama!!

If you click on this link Gizmo's tech alert . It still is Gizmo's but, his site is now

sustained by Stumble Upon. it will not redirect you to Stumble. You'll have to click on the Digital imaging / Photo software and then on the Capture link which is the third one. The page that will open is the capture page where he will recommend to you his three

best programs .

Check it out and don't be afraid , it is safe. I go there all the time and have recommended this to site to countless people at work.

Hi MPH,
Like I just told Piyush, it seems like it is only here at PCW that my Snips come out squishy and hard to read.
I just took a couple of Snips to show on my other thread about Yahoo, so I'll post one of them here to see if it happens again:

See? That's what I'm talking about. grrrrrr X-(

EDIT ~ I just clicked on my Snip like you suggested, MPH, and it only got highlighted, it didn't get expanded. So, what do you think is going on?

I feel honored to be on the same page as MPH! LOL

Hi Tech4me,
Thanks for the info and the link. I notice that your screencapture is not blurry and squished like mine.... aarrrgh :0

I will definitely check it out! B-)

Do you have it sitting in your Notification Area, or do you have it run automatically when you Start your computer?

[~80073] . I don't recormend leave it in task bar and running all the time.

After you download it....have in on your desk top.....double click when you need to use it...and drag it to any conner ( one time only).

Makesure you click save and pick save to ....For instance...To my picture...etc.....and it will save it there for you. Have fun.

EDIT ~ I just clicked on my Snip like you suggested, MPH, and it only got highlighted, it didn't get expanded. So, what do you think is going on?

Right click on the snip and open in new tab. It will be clear.

The pixel size is the original size of the image . You can see it by right clicking the image and go tp properties tab . Here details tab will show the info. Or the pixel size will appear even if you just keep your mouse over the image for a few seconds.

Normally here on pcw forums, all images larger than 600X450 pixels are scaled to fit in size the forum limits. This causes blurred images but opening them in new tab or viewing them makes them clear in original size. If you try uploading a small size snip (< 600X450), then it will come without any scaling and it will be clear. So its not a problem with snipping tool . It will be same for all screens larger than that size.

See i just uploaded a screen (729X513 pixels ,not from snipping tool) which is larger than 600X450 pixels. It will also come as blurred .

Posted Image

If you right click the image in the web page itself, it comes up as 450X317 pixels(
scaled and blurred ) ,while opening it in new tab restores it to 729X513 (unblurred original size).
