I have the following application error. It reads as follow:

"pctsSvc.exe - Application Error

The exception unkown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b. "

This error keeps popping up while other programs are running. I was wondering if someone could guide me though a correction.

Thank in advance for any help.

All I can tell you is that it's related to PC Tools or Spyware Doctor.

Hi Lardy and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

Now, this may be a stretch but the following works for other issues similar to this:

- Open Windows Explorer (Right Click on My Computer and select Open )

- Right Click on the C: Drive and select Search

- Enter pctsSvc.exe in the search field

- In the advanced section, make sure you select the following:

# Search System Folders
# Search Hidden Files and Folders
# Search Subfolders

- When the search finds the file, Right Click on the file and select Properties

- Click on the Compatibility tab

- Under the Compatibility Mode section, place a check mark next to: Run this program in compatibility mode for

- From the drop down menu, select Windows 2000

- Click Apply and then OK

pctsSvc.exe - PCTools Security Service - A file supplied with PCTools Spyware Doctor software products. File size as of Spyware Doctor product version 6: 1,047 KB in the /Programs directory. Executes from time to time while Spyware Doctor is active.
When active, pctsSvc.exe makes Internet connection to PCTools as part of its operation. User may block the pctsSvc.exe Internet access, for example via a firewall, with no apparent ill effects to PCTools Spyware Doctor, however, doing so may inhibit proper operation of Spyware Doctor.
Errors associated with this file may mean that initial installation of PCTools Spyware Doctor was improper, or that pctsSvc.exe has been corrupted, or that Spyware Doctor has been improperly uninstalled.

Hey Joseph!!

If it is an corrupted file from a bad install or if you recently uninstalled Spyware Doctor,

simply re-install ,If it was recently uninstalled and then go through the uninstall procedure

once again, using the Add/Remove in Windows.

If you are still using Spyware Doctor , then, uninstall and do a re-installation of the

software. Make sure that you have your registration key for this software Before you

uninstall.
