hi techie
Its nice that you tried the browser. Like i said before it has much more power than any other browser and much more safe . All people who use Opera are convinced that it has features that FF needs addons for. Speed dial is the cream of Opera, i use it as opening page and it virtually gives me 9 homepages at startup . ;-)

Hi I have made a switch to firefox 3 for a week. But I discovered that a bit slow down when open yahoo, msn and google page but is fast when open pcworld website if compare to Firefox 2. By the way I'm satisfy with the new Firefox 3 espeacially the zoom function. I hope firefox will continue to do the best for all users :).

I recently made the switch to Vista, when I discovered that I could get it for free through my college. After installing security software and drivers, the next step was to download Firefox. By this time, Firefox 3 had been released, but I never bothered with downloading it on XP. Now I had no choice, but I figured it couldn't be that bad.

Overall, I'm impartial to it. The interface is relatively the same, but there aren't any good themes yet out for Firefox 3, so I'll have to suffer through the default one. I haven't really delved very deep into the new features yet, but I can say that one of the new bookmark features is pretty annoying. When I go to type in an address, it will pop up a list of all my bookmarks that are similar. I really don't like that, since if I wanted to go to a bookmarked site, I'd click on the bookmark instead of typing it in. Other than that, I can't say much about it.

I do have one question though for PCWizKid. Before, I had followed one of your articles on upping the speed of Firefox 2 through about:config. One thing I hear is that Firefox 3 is faster. If so, are some of those tweaks done by default, or should I go ahead and change the settings again? I'm sorry if you discussed this in your video, but I cannot view it from this computer.

SpeedDial can be obtained on Firefox as an extension. Just incase the person that mentioned it was wondering.

I made the switch as soon as the first BETA had been released and kept updating everytime a new one came out up until they finalized the last version. I absolutely love how they have now changed up what goes on behind the screen to make performance so much more better all around. That had been my only nix against version 2 was that it was a large memory hog especially with the fact that I have web browsers running constantly which would create large memory leaks that would bog my entire system down.

I also was a memeber of the guiness world record of most downloaded software in one day for Firefox 3 as i'm sure nearly everyone else on this site was also.

Yeh, I was one of those, although I didn't try until in the evening, so I didn't hit the big delay some did. I like it and had installed it on all three of my Vista machines before if found the [BUG|t-33912] about uploading multiple images. It's not a security problem, it just won't let you upload more than one image in a session into a posting. I had to finish the post in IE7.

I have downloaded Opera, but have not installed it. I may take a look at it over the weekend, but if I don't like it I can always revert to 2.0.0.13 which I still have on my NAS (along with other versions). Because I'm running multiple machines, I always save the download, put it on the NAS and then install from there.

How good is Safari compared to FF 3.0 anyways? I heard it had a lot of security issues. It's what my girlfriend uses, I did some tests on it and it seemed to open webpages a ton faster than FF, IE, or Opera. The only problem I seen on her comp was that at certain webpages (for example myspace and photobucket) the program would totally lock up and you'd have to close it from task manager then open it back up.

I have no experience with Safari. Smax may be able to give a better idea since he is our Mac guy, and he may even use it on the Windows side. As I said, I have not even installed Opera yet, and have only used FiredFox (as Piyush calls it) for about a year (version 2.0.0.2 is my oldest download).

Did someone call me ?
As far as safari is concerned , I had tried it on windows when it was ver 3.0 , somewhere around december last year. Browser was fine and speed was good but the download manager totally sucked. Havent tried the recent builds as i have no intentions to switch at this time or in near future.

Check out the standard acid3 test - http://acid3.acidtests.org/
See how good is your browser. It evaluates out of 100. I posted some results in adama's FF thread here.
They were in this order FF2

Hi Borachonerd,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized SUpport Team.

The Phishing Filter and Norton Toolbar features of Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 will work correctly with Firefox 3. Please close Firtefox 3 and then manually run LiveUpdate to ensure that you have the latest program and definition updates.

Next, open Firefox 3 and if you do not see the Norton Toolbar, click on the "View" menu and then"Toolbars" and make sure there is a check next to the Norton Toolbar.

Thank you,

Mike

That's the reason I keep old downloads on my drive. I have FF back to 2.0.0.2, but probably should dump some of them. Here is a link to 2.0.0.15. There are some problems with FF3, but the only ones I am experiencing is in multiple images to this website. Otherwise, it seems to work fine on my Vista machines, and the problem I have is apparently a conflict between the community software and FF3. This laptop is at 2.0.0.15, but FF3 is still on my other two machines.
