Just purchased a ION Tape2PC to transfer cassettes to my PC, then to CD. Problem: no sound! I have sound everywhere else, but when I connect the jacks/cables of whatever they are called - no sound anywhere. HELP. These are the same jacks/cables that I use for the Record Player. Suggestions. Thanks for you assistance. Nester.

Hi, Nester.

Have you successfully recording to your PC from a turntable? Your message implied that you have but was a little unclear.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you've plugged the cable into the right jack on your PC. It needs to be line in, which is usually blue, not line out or microphone.

If everything is plugged in correctly and you're sure of the software you're using (you might want to tell us what that is, too), call ION and complain. If you just bought it, it's still under warranty.

If you are using Audacity which is supplied with the ION device, open the preferences and select the Software Playthrough option.

I used the ION turntable before and I have recently purchased and am using the ION Tape2PC device.

If you are using the EZ Tape Converter, I am not sure what setting to use. Personally, I would rather use Audacity or other sound editing software.

Yes, I have successfully recorded from the turntable - no problems.

The ION came with two programs; one is EZ Tape Converter, and the other is Audacity. I have tried every change that I can think of, and still no sound. When using Audacity I can record from the microphone!

The instructions state that you need to change the Sound Playback to something other then "USB Audio Codec," which I did. I am running Windows XP. When recording there is a meter to show the sound waves. With EZ Tape Converter nothing happens; when using Audacity I can hear it recording the sound of the wheels turning on the tape deck.

Scott, walk me through it. Using Audacity, I can see it recording my voice through the microphone, but nothing from the cassette. I switched to every option, and still no sound.

Tell me what you have plugged into the back of the ION on the PLAY output jacks, and what you have plugged in on the REC Input side. I have two jacks that are connected to (sorry I do not know the name) another two jacks that become one and it is plugged into the "blue" in connection on the back of the computer tower.

I did not use the supplied cables.

I plugged the USB cable into an open USB port.

In Audacity, I opened the preferences (Ctrl-P), selected the Audio I/O tab, playback is set to the installed audio device, recording is set to the USB Audio Codec 2 channels, and clicked the Software Playthrough (Play new track while recording it) option.

I am using Audacity 1.2.6, downloaded from Sourceforge.
