Hi all,
I have an ASUS Pro31Sc laptop which came with Vista. I've binned this and installed XP which has left me with a driver issue for the Realtek HD Audio device which the laptop comes with. Also wireless driver issues but one thing at a time.
I have installed the Microsoft UAA hotfix, and run the ASUS utility which installs the RealtekAC97 directory which, according to ASUS should allow the drivers for the device to be detected..... it does not. At the request of ASUS I have also attepted to flush the BIOS, this was not required as the version they sent me was older than the one installed. At this point ASUS responded with " this is not supported", oh joy!
ASUS can not tell me the component model number so that I can get the required driver from Realtek. So I have two questions:
1. Can anyone tell me how to find out the component model or serial number (without pulling the laptop apart)?
or
2. Is there a fix for the component not picking up the driver?
Any help appreciated!

Hey kiddo!!
Welcome to PCWorld Community !
I have a few apps and sites for you to investigate.
I don't know if this will help but, maybe worth a try.
First, DriverMagic might be of some help.
It will tell you what drivers are on your PC and if you need to up-date or repair.
Second, DrverDownload Central .
This software utility automatically finds ALL
the drivers your PC needs.
Maybe of great help.
Third option is to visit The Device Driver Forum
You might be able to find answers to your questions on a
dedicated driver forum.
I hope this will help you resolve your situation.
IF not, then others in this community are sure to have
more suggestions.
FLASHORN.
