Why can't I copy and paste by dragging in Vista?

In XP I often copy highlighted text from one window (Browser) just by dragging it onto another one in the Task Bar (Word or Search field in the new browser window), which opens as soon as the mouse cursor hovers over it. I can't reproduce the same procedure in Vista? When I try, that second window's rectangle in the Task Bar changes only to orange color but it never opens to let me finish pasting like in XP. So, I'm forced there to use the "usual" Copy and Paste technique.
Thanks for any advise.

Let me clarify a bit more what and when works/doesn't work.
Winows XP:
1) In two separate IE windows with pages that have text in first one and Search (or any other fill-in box) in the second, I can drag the text from first to the second and drop it there.
2) I can reproduce the same situation with the second window as Word and WordPad except NotePad.
3) However, I can't acomplish that within one IE window among different Tabs (both in XP and Vista)
4) Now reverse; I can drag text from Word or WordPad (except Notepad) to IE fill-in box. However that always works here like Cut-n-Paste because it removes the text from Word.
5) I can drag-n-drop within one IE window that has both text and fill-in box
Windows Vista:
I can only drag-n-drop within one IE window that has both text and fill-in box.

Regarding the cut-paste by drag & drop from word - If you want to copy-paste text from word , hold the ctrl key while dragging text.

I still don't understand why I can drag-n-drop in XP between two basic applications (IE7 and Word; all made by Microsoft) and can't do that in Vista. To me it's a step backwards if Vista is responsible for that.
Could you tell me where in IE7 or Word (or even WordPad) I can find the settings you are referring to? Maybe XP and Vista have them somewhere, too? Thanks.

To change these settings in word 2007 : Click the office button on top -> word options .In the advanced tab , the setting is there as highlighted in the screen below .
hope this helps.

So, here is what we have:
1) the Word (and even the WordPad) is not an issue in both XP and Vista; one can drag-n-copy between its two separate windows
2) IE7 and Word are not an issue in XP; one can drag-n-copy between those two different windows (back and forth)
3)IE7 and Word are problematic in Vista;
a) one can drag-n-copy only from Word into IE7 fill-in field
b) one can't drag-n-copy from IE7 into Word
The culprit seems to be then with Vista preventing IE7 to accomplish what XP allows it without the problem.
Therefore my original (but modified by now) question remains still unanswered...Why can't I drag-n-copy from IE7 into Word in Vista but have no problem with it in XP?

But i think you are being too curious about this thing. Drag and drop text isnt a common thing to do , mostly prefer copy and paste. For files/folders its OK as its universally supported.
Someone else may have some more ideas.

I do not think the drag and drop feature works for text. But you can copy and paste, it'll probably do the same thing for you.

Someone else may have some more ideas.Yes, I am able to drag-n-paste in XP between IE7 and Word/WordPad without limits (both text and pictures) as I can do that with the traditional Copy-n-Paste. It is interesting that you can't do that in your XP and I can.
It's not that I'm just "curious about this thing"; I'm looking for a final explanation of this limitation in Vista (at least in my case). It is somewhat important to me because I often utilize the drag-n-paste between IE7 and Word, if I want to print only those sections of the page that I'm interested in. Using this technique is really faster and more convenient than all that right/left Copy-n-Paste clicking. Therefore It has become a common feature to me for quite some time and it has always worked until the Vista arrived.
I may have another question for you but it's a different topic, so I may have to create a new thread for it. See, if you can help me there.

Hi Dnalop. For future reference, if the original Discussion's focus shifts from one topic to another, please just start another Discussion. Even though the issues may be similar, there is no way to officially change the Discussion titles of each response within a current Discussion.

Nothing "appears", I did change the Subject and explained why in the initial post.
However, I understand your point and will comply with your request right now. I will bring back the original question to this thread and create a new topic for that slightly modified question.
