I signed up with pcworld.com in order to post a response to an article.
Although I carefully opted OUT of all email 'offerings' when I signed up (you may be assured I was alert and careful at every step), I wound up SUBSCRIBED to TWO newsletters, which I received within about a day. I unsubscribed. And I sent a bitter letter of complaint.
Now, a day or two later still, I find I am INVOLUNTARILY 'opted-in' to PC World advertising offers by email! AND (despicably) to those of their affiliates. I have again opted-out. God only knows who has my address now, and it's a sure bet they won't respect any opt-out demand I may have sent to PCWorld.
Whatever else PC World may be it is now also an intrusive spamming operation that spits upon its users' express preferences and intentions. I used to RESPECT PC World. Not anymore.

Hi Duane,
I noticed that you've had 82 views and zero replys.
In the first paragraph you described how "alert and careful" you were in opting out. (probably not). You also described how, upon receiving two newsletters, you immediately sent a "bitter letter of complaint". (At this point most people would have just opted-out again without sending a letter, much less a "bitter" letter.) But in reading your whole post, in my opinion your a whiny person. You seem to like thinking youself a precise and attentive person. You may sound like it, but your probably not. Quite frankly, I'd love to see the content of the letter you sent. I can easily surmise, that if I were a credit card telephone operator taking your complaint, and you responded to me in that fashion, I'd certainly be tempted to throw in a couple of more problems for you. Not that I think PC World people would do such a thing. Without knowing for sure, I'd venture a guess that your neighbors would wish you would move. You have a short fuse mister. You sound like the type of person that gets bold in type because you don't have the balls to do it in person in life. Why don't you just delete PC World from any bookmarks and don't return. You'd probably be doing everyone a favor.

Have you looked around http://www.pcworld.com/myaccount ? There is the box you mentioned before about 3rd parties on the main page then look about your newsletters for the rest. Apparently there is also a box on the newsletter page about 3rd parties and such.

Hi Duane,
I've moved your thread to the Web Site area, where we talk about issues with PC World's website and things like newsletters. I'm sorry that I didn't respond to this earlier, but I didn't see it in the Answer Line section until now.
As Adama said, the person who handles issues like this is reachable at webmaster@pcworld.com. I've already been in contact with him on this issue, and he should be contacting you shortly to help you resolve it.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and I hope that we can regain some of your respect.
