my external harddisk is showing, "Volume information for this disk is not available....".how do i solve??

i was trying to format one of the drivesof my external harddisk<80gb>...but had to
quit in the middle of formatting....windows asked my few times whether
to retry quit or cancel,after a few attempts i was able to quit...
but
now i cant load NONE of the drives of the harddisk..in device manager
it is showing that "Volume information for this disk is not
available....",i tried it on linux as well,but doesnt work..
the datas on my other drives are very valuable...pls pls PLS help me out of this.PLS

I have two initial questions:

- At any time, did you disconnect the external hard drive either during or after the formatting process? If so, how did you disconnect the drive?

- Does the hard drive work connected to another computer?
