What a crock.

If you are not an ATT customer, the iPhone 3G is $199

If you are an existing iPhone user, the iPhone 3G is $199

If you are an Amish Farmer, the iPhone is $199

BUT .... IF YOU ARE A LOYAL ATT CUSTOMER FOR YEARS AND WANT AN IPHONE 3G, the Price is $399.

Didn't Uncle Steve say, "Half the price, twice the speed?" Isn't that in the media? On the Apple Stores? Didn't Steve say exactly that at WWDC?

Seems AT&T wasn't listening, or agreeing.

My wife is supremely angry about this, and I, a loyal ATT/Apple customer for several years, well, I just can't believe it.

Talk about disappointing.

How we found out? The Apple Store had a Mac Bouncer who would not let anyone into the store EXCEPT to buy an iPhone 3G. While waiting in the line outside, an Apple rep told us, "You should check to see if you qualify for the upgrade price." What? What upgrade price? It's $199 everywhere right? Nope.

Sorry that you have not noticed, but mobile phone companies have been doing this kind of stuff for a LONG time. It has been common practice for mobile phone companies to offer deals to customers who are not THEIR customer in order to entice them to switch to their mobile phone service...but NOT offer that same deal to their existing customers. Sprint did that for a LONG time. As a long time loyal customer, I could get a $150 discount on a new phone such as a Treo (if I signed a 2 year contract and if I had my current phone for some period of time) but a new customer (i.e. someone NOT with Sprint) would get even more of a discount. This always boggled my mind as it was essentially saying to me..."we don't care about you as a loyal customer...so feel free to go to one of our competitors while WILL offer you a bigger discount since you will be NEW customer to them". When I last upgrade, it appeared that Sprint had finally seen the light and I was able to get the same discount on my new Treo as a new customer would. But, it does not suprise me if some companies are STILL doing that stupid stuff.

I can understand why the AT&T data plans are more expensive for the new 3G iphone, but why do they have to make the plans so inconsistent and confusing?!?!
