I have installed hardy heron on a computer. The installation it self went well. However, I don't know how toget to access the internet. I'm using a Biostar athlon processor and Mb combo. THe sound card video and lan are all on the MB. The video and sound are working just fine but, the lan is not. How do I proceed?

Hi [~141619]
First thing , plz check in your device manager and make sure that you onboard network card is supported. Almost all new cards are supported but this is just a check to make sure that your is working fine.

Also how do you connect to the internet on windows, I mean, Is it a dialup or cable ? There will be a network icon on the top right corner of the screen from where the configuration can be changed .The same thing will be in System -> administration -> network .

oh , i didnt see your post . I saw it marked as answered and left it.

For seeing the ubuntu machine on the Xp network , you need to install and configure samba . Its present by default in ubuntu 8.04 , you may update it through synaptic. You may refer to samba configuration on the online documentation . If youare not able to get it working , then post back , we ll help you in getting it done. :)
