I'm a little suspicious of your list. Some of these apps need work particularly the AOL Radio which drops out in the middle of songs and when the phone falls asleep you lose your connection.
For you apple freaks Remote is great if you have an iTV (even though you can not control the volume) otherwise the remote aspect for the laptop useless in my personal opinion.
hands down Google Mobile is a keeper. Urbanspoon has a great interface and powerful database, and is full of good nuggets about destinations. Unfortunately we all don't live in a major cities which is its largest drawback. Your better off doing a google search.
I'm very disappointed pcworld looks like you didn't thoroughly test these apps.

Hi bdaniels,
Thanks for posting your comments. I didn't experience the drop-out issues with AOL Radio that you noted in your post, and the apps were tested in a big city (San Francisco), which definitely added to the usability of the Urbanspoon app.
As far as thoroughly testing the apps, they were tested as thoroughly as one can in a three-day period. Of course, it's impossible to comment on a particular app's longevity or long-term reliability in such a short stretch of time; when apps crashed, I noted it in the article. The apps are all free, too, so there's no financial loss if you disagree with the reviewer's opinion.
Thanks again for your comments -- I hope this clears things up.

Thanks for the response Tim. I can see how it would be a pointless article on free apps to test the longevity.
My friend and I both had problems with the AOL radio from the very beginning, he has the Edge iphone and I the new. Cheers to you for not having problems do you want to trade phones;)
I think one of the issues is with Apple's latest software, it's too buggy. Web surfing and using some apps have become unbearable at times.
If you do a pick of paid apps I hope you guys would spend a longer amount of time with them it would be really helpful because Apple does not offer trials.

Be careful...in order to be able to download the apps you need to upgrade to iTunes 7.7 and iPhone 2.0.
Check out the Apple discussion groups especially those for windows (discussions.apple.com). The groups are overflowing with descriptions of major synch problems with these upgrades, especially related to Outlook Calendar.
Beware!

This is a really bad list. There are a few hundred free apps that are much better than the ones suggested here. I am completely baffled by this list and the rationale behind calling these as must have. Whoever came up with this list - please check out the other free apps and update this article.

ry Foolthewifey, its a great app that integrates with your phone, automatically filters background noise, and plays various sounds in the background while you talk. Train station, bar, meeting, etc. Its great to "Fool The Wifey" , particularly if you happen to be enjoying some side action.
