I was looking in "System Info" recently and it says my comp has 512RAM total, but only 145 available. I realize some is being used by the video card but what else uses this memory? Is there somewhere in Windows that will show a list of the resources tapping into it? And if so is there a way the user can do anything to maximise the available memory?

Thanks ArcticSid

Press Ctrl Alt Del to bring up the task manager and go to the processes tab. It will show all processes running and taking up memory.
To increase available memory - Either increase the memory installed OR close the programs that you are not using all the time.

Hi, In addition to what piyush said, I suspect you are using an onboard graphics chipset. These generally use shared memory, which will use some memory. This can be alleviated by installing a graphics card with it's own memory. You might also consider adding some ram as well. coastie

I am indeed using an onboard xhipset, and quess I suspected it could be using alot. In fact as soon as I get around to it I intend to get a plug in card. Part of the reason I posted this question was to look for ways to increase buffering speed while viewing streaming video/audio. I assume a plug in card would help. As always, I appreciate "yalls" advice.

Thanks

Yeah, a plug in card with it's own memory would help, and as I said, a little more system memory certainly wouldn't hurt. coastie
