I installed xp home first, and then installed ubuntu on a separate partition. How can i modify the grub boot menu to put xp as the default o/s choice?

Start looking from the top in the menu.lst file, you will see something like - "default 0"

Change it to "default N" ,where N is the item no. in the boot menu which you want to set as default. If you have a dual boot of xp and ubuntu. N should be 4 for xp to be defaulted.
