CCleaner - Have you had any problems between it and Vista?

Hello everyone.
Yesterday I downloaded CCleaner to help me with the cookie problem I've been having on that other Forum. Here's the link to that other thread forums.pcworld.com/thread/36232|t-36232
I used CCleaner yesterday to clean a whole slew of cookies, and it cleared about 31.+/- MB of stuff.
However, ever since, I've been having mega-problems with getting into my email account, into pcw, into other Forums..... aaarrrrggghhhh!!!
If you have Vista and are using CCleaner, are you having or have you ever had the problems like I am having?

Hi TFF, long time no see!
No, I didn't use the registry cleaner. I just used it to clean the cookies, to see if that would help me with the problem I've been having in another forum.
But ever since I downloaded it I've been having nothing but problems. I tried 3 times to get into my email account this morning and every time my pointer froze and I had to turn off the computer, and then turn it back on again. Then this afternoon, I couldn't even login to Yahoo, and I got the Internet cannot find the page.... crapola message too.
I have been having problems getting into PCW also. Twice this afternoon, I got the "PCW is undergoing maintenance picture," which I know is not true, because Kellie would have told us about any maintenance for today.
I think it's because of CCleaner. Maybe it's not compatible with Vista.....?

Hey Adama!!
I also have had that "Undergoing .............blah blah blah" page for about 2 to 3 hrs this afternoon.
I thought it might have been Firefox but, I got to swear at IE7 also! !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/

As for the CCleaner, it is compatible with Vista. I use it sparingly. I also can recognize the
files that it wants to clean.
OK, usually Vista will create a "restore point" every day. That's where I'd go. Do a "System Restore"
to before you cleaned or screwed up the notebook. !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/
1!
Here is how we get to it:
Start, All Programs , Accessories , Mouse down to " System Tools" , Mouse Down to "System Restore"
Click on that option. In Vista , it takes about one (1) minute to bring up the System Restore so, be patient!!!
This is what you will see:
1!
OK, now where it says "Recommended restore" If it says Cleaned with CCleaner
or something to that effect, then , we will need to change the restore point .
To change the restore point to another one you will put a Check Mark in the :
"Choose a different restore point" .
1!
Now at the bottom of the window you will see Next. click on that .
This is what you will see:
_Ok, See next post. I cannot upload this screen shot. This is the third time I try.
Adama, click on one of the restore points that is BEFORE you cleaned with CCleaner.
Don't go to far back . If there is one a few hrs before then fine. if not,one day as long as you did
not install any programs, because you will loose that installation.
Once you have chosen a point or date, click on the Next button at the bottom of the window.
Sit back and let Vista do it's work. This might take a few minutes ( 4 or 5 ), and your notebook
might reboot a few times.
Once it's all done , try what you wanted to do today but could not.
If you have any questions just ask. One more suggestion. The next time you would like to
delete any files, Copy and Paste them in a discussion and ask if they are safe to delete.

Once you have a chosen a restore point , click on the Next button

I personally dont feel any need of using such cleaners uness in problem situations. The disk cleanup and the the temp file cleanup from the IE7 menu should work the same as the junk cleaner of CCleaner. I am not sure of the exact term as i havent ever used this utility.

Hi Flashorn,
Thanks so much for all the great info. URTB :x
I solved the problem by getting rid of CCleaner last night. I uninstalled it before I powered off for the night.
Today I had absolutely NO problem getting to my email account, nor to PCW. Now everything is working fast again, just as usual.

Hi Kid,
Thanks go to you too, for your assistance. :x
I'm glad you've never had problems with CCleaner. I wish I could say the same because I had mega problems with it, so I uninstalled it last night.
Maybe it wasn't compatible with SpySweeper and TrendMicro AV, who knows.... But, what the hey, it's gone now and all is back to normal.
YAY!

Hi Piyush,
I was wondering where you were...! I knnow, your University classes probably started already, huh?
Yeah, I never used this utility before either. So, I don't think I'll ever use it again. :|
OFF TOPIC
Did you vote for your favorite design for the PCW t-shirt? There are some really cool designs there.

Hey Adama!!
It's not the downloading in itself that caused the temporary problems.
it was Running the app.. You probably deleted some temporary files that were needed
to run certain processes. Had you rebooted your notebook last night , things would have come
back just like they did this morning when you restarted the notebook. It was like a reboot only
longer. And no, it's not because it sat all night in the off position. It was a simple reboot. Some of the
places you were trying to reach may have also been unavailable. It happened to me last night where
I could not reach certain addresses.
CCleaner will in fact run well in XP or Vista and it doesn't matter what other program
you have on your notebook. It does not interact with any programs other then when it is
doing some Cleaning. Like I said , if you want to clean some files, Copy and Paste them
in a discussion and either MPH or rgreen or coastie or techie or Piyush or Spirit will tell
you which ones are safe to remove,
Ok, sweetie, I hope my attempt at an explanation worked for you. If not , then ask away.
Off Topic. My phone has been ringing off the hook. My Mom says , I hope I'm not disturbing you!
