Discussions are being deleted. I had replied to "Coceptdraw7 pro loading problem" in (Answer Line) yesterday only to find that the discussion no longer exists this morning. Once the discussion vanishes, I'm usually granted by a private message from the original poster telling me the discussion suddenly VANISHED. !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/
1!
We are frequently receiving (System Error) messages when submitting posts to discussions, visiting certain parts of the web site, and checking or sending our private messages. There is nothing in detail within this System Error message, just the bold letters "System Error." Hitting the back or forward button on your browser simply crashes the web site and you have to reload.

Finally, Coastie had mentioned that it had taken him 2 hours yesterday just to submit a post in General talk because the server wouldn't allow him to make any posts. 2 hours??

In addition, we are seeing "PC World is down for maintenance" randomly. I know that maintenance was done a couple days ago but this message has been showing up everywhere at the most random times of the day. I could be browsing a long the General Talk and transition over to Desktops but am then greeted with "PC World is down for Maintenance." After I refresh my page, I'm able to continue with my browsing, but the maintenance page keeps showing up.

Anytime you see the "PC World is down for maintenance" message without warning it either means we have shut down the servers for an unplanned outage, or they have shut themselves down. In either case we get alarms telling us about the problem and we take imediate action to correct it. Often this means that we are fixing an issue that you are probably aware of, such as the posts vanishing yesterday. It may seem like you see the Maintenance page more often now, but that is because we just recently started using that for the forums, in the past you didn't get that page, instead it would just appear that the forums are taking a very long time to load when in fact the servers were actually down. The shutdowns are actually much less frequent than they used to be.

Anyway please do continue to let us know when you see a problem.

Bill

Thanks for this thread, Aurora.

Yesterday I encountered the same problems that Techie4fun is describing. I got the Maintenance... picture 3 times, at the most random times.

Also, on 8-6-08 (Wednesday) I got the same message several times, between 5:30pm and 7:45pm, that's when I decided to shut down everything out of frustration.

I posted a comment on a thread and it never appeared. I re-posted it and the 2nd one never appeared either. However, a couple of people received the email notifs with my comment, when they came to the thread to answer it it was not there!

I sent a PM to MPH but he couldn't see what I was talking about.

This has been happening back and forth for the past couple of days now.

Still having problems with big blank areas within a thread and you continue to scroll down and catch upp with the posts again. When you click to reply, it jumps or disappears and if you scroll up you will find it overlaid on another post. coastie

I hope it's ok for me to post this here, but I've been having problems getting into My Profile. I have tried to get in several times now, but when I click on it, it doesn't take me anywhere.

Did you click on MY Stuff? Clicking on the avatar doesn't seem to work too well.

Well, I was finally able to change my sig, but it took about 4 1/2 mins of waiting, for the Profile page to kick in.

I PM'd MPH and he answered back saying that it's probably related to all the other problems we've been experiencing. And that Kellie and Bill were aware of the problem.

GTK - Good To Know. :D

Oops, Tech, we were not supposed to talk about any other subject in this discussion, because this thread is only for people who are experiencing problems with PCW website.

Sorry Aurora.

Hi LilxKid. I agree with you. It looks like whatever was happening over the course of the week is fixed, hopefully. I am sure Kellie and Bill will confirm this when they check back on Monday.

I think that most of it has been fixed, because I'm able to post and my comments are staying put.

Except for the Profile delay I was experiencing yesterday. And I agree with Coastie too, when you click on your avatar, it doesn't work too well either.

Hi Adama. It would appear that the Profiles are down altogether. I attempted to use either my avatar or the Profile link under Your Stuff to access my Profile....that was about 26 minutes ago. I am sure this will not be an issue for too much longer but for now, the Profile section seems to be down.

1! Part of my problems last night that I thought was site related, was in fact due to the fact my router went screwey and I had to reset / reprogram the thing. All is fine now it seems. coastie

Hi MPH. Thanks for checking up on me and my little problems. Yeah, it took me quite a long time to get into my Profile to change my sig; but I was glad that it finally let me in! :p

I'm sure not all of us want to change our Profiles right on the same day, right? ;) (except for maybe Tech4me...) ;) LOL
