Help
I have some avi files a friend gave me from their digital camera. I want to put them onto a dvd. I don't neccessarily need them to play on a regualar dvd player with menus and all that. I have windows XP home. I don't have any dvd authoring software that I know of. If I have to use authoring software is there a decent free one available. Thanks.

Every computer that came with a DVD burner that I've heard about also came with authoring software of some type. As do internal DVD burners that are sold separately. Often it's a flavor of PowerDVD or Nero.

I have Cyberlink's Power DVD but it is only a DVD player it doesn't record DVDs.

I found the disk. It is Sonic MyDVD Suite. It is a little out dated but it worked. Thanks.

I have been using WinAvi 8.0 without a hitch, I have burned over 400 movies and counting. Most of them are perfect I have tried all the special advertised stuff and most of it is resource draining to say the least. When I convert AVI to DVD it automatically converts the file to .VOB for me and allows me to one click burn in a matter of 5-8 minutes I have a complete movie at 4.4- 4.7 GIGS on a disk, fast to say the least takes about 40 minutes compared to the larger programs such as Nero or any of the other. Those are great for home movies where you can take your time with them. It is not a free software program but it is the best and I have tried them all trust me I'm a burning geek. JC

Nero used to give me problems too. It would take over an hour to burn a DVD. But for some reason when I installed it on my new hard drive it's now taking barely over 5 minutes from start to finish.
If you have an IMG of the disk, I believe ImgBurn is capable of doing the actual burning. It is a free program, and I've had success with it. The reason I'm not 100% sure it is handling the entire burning process is because I'll never be completely certain that it's not using DLL's that another authoring program has installed.
