Does anyone know if the Iphone 3G continuously alerts you if you have unread emails or do you just get one email alert?

I get emergency email alerts and if the phone keeps alerting you to unread emails that would be Perfect.

If not does anyone know if there is a 3rd party application for the Iphone that would do this????

Thanks.....

It will depend on what type of email service you are using with the iPhone. Not all email services use "push email". I am pretty sure that Yahoo email does as does Mobile Me (what was a .Mac email account through Apple). But, you can also do "standard" POP and IMAP email accounts, which will generally NOT get the email instantiously. But, generally you can specify how often a POP/IMAP client will check for email (i.e. every 1 minute, 15 minutes, 1 hour, etc). The point is that is it more a function of your email service...in combination with what the iPhone can work with.

I will note that there is also SMS text messaging type stuff. Most US cell phone companies will allow you to sent a text message as an email message. For example, with Sprint, if you send a message to [XXXXXXXXXX@messaging.sprintpcs.com] (I believe that is the right domain...it has been a while), where the XXXXXXXXXX is the person's mobile phone number, then it will come to them as a text message. And ALL text message systems, to my knowledge, are "push systems"...that is the service will "push" the message to the phone as soon as the server gets it. I use my text messaging for weather alearts (i.e. tornado alearts, etc) and for some critical sports scored (one MUST know the score of the Michigan game when one cannot be in front of the TV! :) ). The only downside of this is that text messages tend to cost more money...you either pay some ridiculous amount per message or pay a monthly charge of something like $5 or $10 a month. I should also note that it still may not be "instanteous" (nor is "push" email for that matter)...it still takes time for the various servers to route the message. The difference is that rather than waiting for your phone/email client to contact the server and ask if there is new email, a "push" system will "push" the email/message to your email client/phone as soon as your service's server gets it.
