Hello all,

I am having trouble installing ActiveShield on my Dad's computer, It is a Dell and I think it was originally installed but I think Dad, who was 87 years young, somehow uninstalled it in the course of doing his thing on the computer. We both have the same model Dell but mine is a year of so newer and mine works fine.

I keep getting the ActiveShield componets not install error message after booting and cannot access some web sites. I suspect it was installed with the original preloaded software and have tried to get help from Dell but have not been successful in that endeavor.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help

:D Hi Neal :

I never heard of "Active Shield" prior to your Post and a Google "Search" reveals there are

several products with that Name, so more Specific Info from you is necessary to

possibly help !? Exact spelling, including IF there is a a space between the 2 words is

also important .

Is this by chance part of the McAfee Internet Security Suite ? Also knowing the SPECIFIC

Name of your Dad's Operating System will most likely be helpful .

SpiritWind,

Thanks for the response. I have tried the google search and it led me no where at the time several months ago, maybe there have been some updates since then. The operating system is Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. The error message is "ActiveShield" componets missing. I tried to down load the McAfee Internet Security Suite from the backup CD provided with the computer but could not because of an error message regarding Adobe and when I tried to load Adobe it let me get within 98% of the finish and kicked me off. I did find shareware on the PCWorld but at a cost and since I think this was already paid for as part of the system, I am reluctant to do so but not having much success with Dell and McAfee help sites.

Thanks much for the info which confirms what I think and have already tried, if you come up with anything at all I would be grateful

Neal

Posted Image Hi Neal :

It appears you are talking about the "Active Shield" component of the McAfee Internet

Security Suite !? This has no relation to the "Other" "Active Shield" programs revealed by

a Google Search . I will start off by saying the "Helpers" on this Forum do NOT favor ANY

"Security Suite" & I recommend you read the "Document" I wrote at

forums.pcworld.com/docs/DOC-1141|d-1141 . At a minimum there appears to be some

"corruption" of the McAfee program and it would be Best to follow THEIR

Recommendations at [http://service.mcafee.com/FAQdocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=1033]

Are you aware of the Info on this webpage ? OF course, I recommend NOT doing their

"Step 3" and instead seriously consider the Info in my "Document" .

Hopefully you realize that any McAfee Security Suite is ONLY a "Trial" and after the "trial"

ends, McAfee expects the User to begin PAYING for it !? It appears the "Trial" has ended

for your Dad ( and possible you ) and McAfee has made their program ineffective on the

computer .
