Do you use OpenDNS? If so, why? If not, Why? I have been using OpenDNS for awhile. What so you think?

Aprecite the comments.

It's okay. I only use it on occassion to keep the kids away from myspace. You can still search for porn through google images, though. The problem is it's JUST a domain blocker and nothing more (doesn't analyze web pages for content).

I have it enabled but can not yet test it because the DHCP server doesn't work or something... (I can not connect any systems to my "server")
It looks awesome, though!

Read credible recommendations of OpenDNS for a while now but never installed it until two days ago when I learned of OpenDNS Updater 2.0. Besides, can't beat the price.

First installed it on my XP and Vista boxes after setting up an account but then found instructions to add OpenDNS addresses in Static DNS 1 and Static DNS 2 to router fields. Figured the fewer apps running the better and OpenDNS setup page said router configuration was best for home networks.

Since router setup and choosing minimal content filtering (protects against phishing attacks), have found that pages load slower and I get more site warnings for sites that haven't historically posed problems, including pcworld.com.

Just wondering if using OpenDNS is security overkill since I use standard recommended protection (anti-virus/malware, firewall, ad filtering) and keep my systems and apps patched. Think my Linksys WRT54GL also has some kind of firewall built in.

nice pic =)

and i like opendns, but... if it didn't take over/redirect my firefox browsing i would be ok

firefox has this really neat feature (linked with google) that lets me type in the name of a website in the address bar and it takes me directly there

with opendns if i try to do that, i get redirected to a opendns serch on the website instead of the website itself

Dang, you're right. Just tried it (typed "google" into URL box) in FF 3014 and was redirected to opendns serch. But isn't it implied that the sites suggested by opendns serch are safer than what FF recommends? Or am I just being overly paranoid?

i think firefox links to google's i'm feeling lucky search... so when you type the name of a website, it takes you directly there
or it might be a part of firefox that does that same kind of thing... (then opendns redirects the search... :P )
