I created an extended partition on my pc and i made it too big and now I would like to transfer space from the expanded partition back to the original. I can't seem to get Gparted to do this. Any other free recomendations? Thanks!

Puppy Linux may work, but I'm not sure what it all has. There may or may not be a partition tool within. Have you tried Partition Logic?

I just used a free program named Easeus and it worked great. It has a simple user interface, excellent documentation and it works flawlessly. I had to enlarge a partition that has my operating system on it so I moved all of the stuff off the adjoining partition and deleted the partition which left me with alot of space to reallocate. I clicked on the partiton I wanted to enlarge to highlight it and then on "resize" and was asked how much of the unallocated space I wanted to use. After that it did all the work, rebooted my computer and it works fine.

For a stand alone bootable CD, GPARTED (freeware) is a good choice.

For a windows based application, EASEUS free version is quite decent.

What windows version are you running?

IF XP or before, you will have to use an external application. For Vista, Disk Manager will do it and it's built into the OS.

The VERY best is Easeus!! The user interface is excellent. You can place your cursor on the graph for the desired drive and just click and drag the partition divider to enlarge or reduce the size. You have to have open space on either side of the partition you want to enlarge so you first may have to transfer some data off of one partition and delete it so you have empty space. Once you have decided what you want to do you have to click a box in the lower left corner marked jobs to perform or something like that. If you want to clone a disk Easeus has a free program named Drive cop or disk copy that also works well though it takes longer than Acronis which costs aropund $30-free is best!Good luck, Steve Wells
