can an IDE and SATA drive operate in RAID together?

i have a 120 GB IDE 5400 RPM and a 500 GB 7200 / 5400 RPM SATA 3.0 GBs drive. Can they run in RAID together?

I wouldn't reccommend it. SATA is about 10 times faster than ide. And if you do a striped raid, (raid0) it will be slow b/c the data will not be read and written at the same speed.

Use the ide drive as an extension for your backups or share it on your network for backups of files on your other computers

Partition the sata drive into at least 3-4 parts

1. for operating system and programs
2. file storage
3. A place to put your large/archived files
4. (optional) for installing a linux distro
