I have an HP printer that gives off an annoying squeak while printing. I have observed signs of rusting on the cylindical bar on which the print head travels, but that doesn't seem to be the source. The squeak instead appears to come from where the printhead parks when inactive(in the right corner of the print well).
Is this a sign of some required maintenance(lubrication?) or, could the printer be nearing the end of its useful life. Could HP help here?

When it comes to lubrication on the bar that the printhead and cartridge rid on, very, very little is needed. Too much and it will jam. In most cases, cleaning with alcohol and then application of BODY grease will do. When I say body grease, I mean just enough on your finger when you wipe behind your ear or the bridge of your nose. Any thing else will drag and collect dust.

Most likely...but you would likely pay more than the cost of a new printer.

As to trying to fix it yourself, the first real challenge would be to find the item causing the squeak. Until you do that, there is really no way for any one to suggest a possible solution. And there is really little anyone can do to help you find the squeak as we are not there.

Unfortunately, this is one that is kind of tough to help with on a forum (i.e. remotely) other than to suggest taking it in for repair or replacing.
