Just got a free computer from a friend. It was an old emachine in which the motherboard died. They had it repaired and put in a new motherboard, a pc chips m825g. I am running Windows Xp pro. The sound does not work. I installed the audio drivers from the pc chips website and c-media, the sound manufacturer. When I click on volume control it tells me to go and add hardware. And add a mixer device. I have tried finding the mixer device but it still does not work. I have tried some tricks on the web including the trick with the plug and play driver. I still have no volume control or sound device in the sound setup. I know the onboard sound works because once when I logged off it made the logging off sound.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

When you put in a new MB the first thing to do is look at the Device Manager. If you hear the log off sound it should be working. Can you go the Sounds in Control Panel and play anything? Give us more detail on the MB, who is the Manufacturer and what is the Model number?
