Welcome to PCWorld Community!
First , it is always advisable to download a product directly from the makers
site. In this case, I would download from download.com. I don't know your
Operating system but, I will make a suggestion anyway since Avira installs
on both XP and Vista. I have it on both my systems with no problems yet.
Download the a new installer from:
Avira AntiVir from download.com .
Once you have downloaded the new installer , I would like you to Uninstall the one you have installed already.
If in XP, go to Start , Control Panel , Add / Remove Program and uninstall Avira. If in Vista , go to Start , Control Panel,
Programs and Features.
Now, Disconnect from the Internet and Disable your Firewall. Not "EXIT" the Firewall but, simply Disable.
Once you have removed the old Avira , you can now install the new one. Once you have installed it ,
you can now "ENABLE" your Firewall and THEN Reconnect to the internet. One other recommendation is that
you use the "Administrator Account" . You should not have to but, just in case. try these suggestions and
report back with your findings.

When I go to their site which is in Germany, the only option I get
no matter what download button i click on , is the download.com
site. That's what I mean by the Makers site. It still might not work
but, you have to put all of the chances of success on your side.
You might want to look at this thread from the Avira Forum.
Avira Support Forum .
While you are there , if this suggestion doesn't work, you should
maybe look around to see if there are any resolutions to this problem.
I didn't know you had Dial-Up. I know it is a pain in the butt but, there are
no other way right now. MAKE sure that you have the FULL package which is
version 8.1.0.331 and the size will be 23.92MB.

Anytime when uninstalling an antiVIRUS program, IF only on a "temporary" basis, should
ALSO use their "Removal Tools" and Avira/AntiVir's are located at
www.avira.com/en/support/av7[uupgrade[/u]tools.html] ; this would include the use of
their "Registry Cleaner" AND the appropiate "Uninstallation Package" .
AND there is another very good Choice when it comes to FREE antiVIRUS programs,
namely the Avast Home Edition; AVG should be considered your Last Option .
Perhaps you should consider using a "Download Manager", such as the FREE
"StarDownloader" at [http://www.stardownloader.com] !?

OK, You should not install an uncomplete installer under any circumstances.
Now, If it is possible for you, go to a friend's house that has a faster connection
and download it to his or her hard drive AND then transfer it to a USB Drive.
This way you will have the Full installer which you would then install via the
USB Drive on your PC.
To remove Avira you could follow Spirit's intructions and use the Uninstall tool
and the registry cleaner which Spirit graciously provided the links to. But remember !!!
These tools are ONLY for XP . If you have Vista. DO NOT use these tools.Instead , BOOT
into safe mode and uninstall from there.
I'm afraid that the current Program Files folder for Avira might be corrupted with
the installation of the uncomplete installer. This is what I would recommend you do.
Install the new Avira Program in a different folder which you will create.
When installing, you will be asked at one point to install to C:Program FilesAvira.....
You will now change this file's name by doing this.
C:Program FilesAvira 2..... This will create a NEW folder for your Avira Program.
Remember to install only the file with the right amount of MB . This would be , as I stated ,
23.92MB and the new Engine version out as of today which is 8.1.0.331. download.com has the right version.
Do not install any other size installer then this one:

IF you have any other questions I will try my best to answer you.

OK, lots of problems you are having over a simple install.
First , you have XP SP2, good. NO you do not have to re-install
XP. This delius.exe is part of Avira but should not be showing up
as it pertains to the license which in the free version you should
already have in the download file. If you go to
C:Programs fileAviraAntiVir PersonalEdition Classic.
Do see a file named "hbedv.key". This is your registration key
for the free version. If it is not there then your downloaded file is still
missing some files.
Now you have to answer a few questions for me.
First : you said that you had AVG installed before , correct?
Did you use the REMOVAL TOOL FOR AVG before installing AVIRA?
If you did not, then PLZ use it and remove the rest of AVG.
AVG Removal Tool . Run this tool
and then REBOOT your PC.
Second: What other security programs do you have installed on your PC?
(eg. AntiVirus AntiSpyware Firewall ).
Third: Once you removed AVIRA with the removal and registry tools , did you
REBOOT after each operation?
When you re-installed Avira, did you install in the "re-named" file folder as I suggested ?
OK, Singh, lets do it this way again but, in the order that I have outlined above.
1-Remove the rest of AVG with tool and REBOOT.
2-Verify that you have the file "hbedv.key" in the file folder of AVIRA.
3- Answer my questions please.
I know this is taking some time and I did some research on the Avira Support forum
but, before we go any further lets take it one step at a time and we might be able to
solve this installation problem.
One more question, have you run a scan with any other program before all of this happened?
Did you find any infections if you did run some scans?, how did you
delete the infections and with which program?.
Post back with your answers and we will try again.

The hdev key was there. I did a scan with AVAST n it found a Trojan but coz Avast was taking ages to scan i cancelled the scan n chose clean installation of window. I installed same old file of AVIRA n this time it worked wel e.g got updated n did manual scanning. BUT unfortunately itz not end of my problems. B4 clean installation of window i made a data CD of all necessary softwares, drivers, Media Players, security tools, browsers etc using NERO. Then i downloaded Avast, Avira, Stardownloader n using NERO added it to previous stuff. As i told u Im a big NOOB so i dont know anything about how to make CDs using Nero lol. Wel Nero made a multisession CD, first session contain 550mb of previous softwares n 2nd 60mb. Then i explored this CD in CD/DVD drive of my system, i was able to get only first session stuff n not Avira, Avast n StarDownloader which i added later. But i ignored it as i could download 60mb files again after clean installion of window. But after the installation when i explored the same CD i was shocked to see that i got nothing what i added in 1st session. I got only 2nd session stuff e.g Avira, Avast n stardownloader. Did i completly lost all softwares i added in 1st session? It will take me almost a month to download them again due to slow GPRS n electricity failures. Would u tell me pls whether or not i can get them back. Any kind of help will b highly appreciated. I hope u reply me

I am unsure IF I read your Post correctly, but you can NOT have BOTH Avira and Avast on
your computer at the same time, as they will "conflict" with each other, causing problems .
You need to chose WHICH One you want, then uninstall the Other from the "Add or
Remove Programs" Section of your computer PLUS use the uninstalled program's
"Uninstallation Utility" . IF you choose to uninstall Avast, you should ALSO use its
"Uninstall Utility" at www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html . As to Avast taking
"ages" to Scan, there are 3 different Scan "types" to choose : Quick, Standard, & Through
with a usual Recommendation to use the "Through" the 1st time ONLY .
