This makes a lot of sense. The mindset shift for customers who will need to understand that carriers won't be able to support all applications will be painful and costly. Carriers will also need to retain some level of standards to ensure a good customer experience to avoid expensive support calls, for customers will innevitably call the carrier as a first point of contact.

Moreover, customers will have a hard time digesting higher phone costs as the handset market becomes more open. As this evolves, consumers will start to veer more and more towards prepaid wireless.
