This the World's largest privately owned Yacht and is 416' in lenght. It was launched in 2003 and belongs to none other than Paul Allen of Micro$oft fame. It is said that he paid over US$200 million for this extravagance. He owns two other "monster" Yachts one of which, the Tatoosh, is ranked third in the world. This thing has a crew of 60 including several former U.S. Navy Seals. It has two helicopters, seven boats, a 10 man submarine and a remote controlled submersible for crawling on the bottom. The Submarine can sleep 8 for up to two weeks underwater. It is figured that the total overhead (upkeep, and salaries and stuff) is 10% of the of the purchase annually. That would mean he would be paying at least US$20 million annually to run that thing and for the maintainance. I received a slide show of pictures of that thing, both exterior and interior. There are two helipads. one up on the foc'sle (bow) and one aft on the fantail. The submarine is in a well in the interior center of the vessel and runs nearly the length. A whole part of the side opens down to form a deck of sorts with an eight seat bar just inside. This is why Micro$oft keeps churning out unneeded and unwanted operating systems. So those at the top can live this overblown life style. coastie has left the building.

Great job, Coastie! < clapping >
Nice story on the Octopus. It must be nice to be able to live in that kind of luxury, wouldn't it?

I like the touch of the Navy Seals, to protect the thing. But a submarine? I think that's may be a little overblown... IMO.

I'd love to see the rest of the pictures you got for the inside of Octopus, though, to have the complete story in pictures. :D

Hi philly, The thing opens with Microsoft Power Point. I didn't even know I had that thing in here and when I checked I had Power Point '07. I don't evem remember installing it , so guess it got slipped in. I had forwarded it to Adama, but she couldn't open it as she didn't have power point as that is what it was created in. I was exploring a work around, but so far I haven't come up with anything. coastie

Hi Coastie,

Go ahead and upload some of the Octopus pics to SolarWings forums.pcworld.com/thread/38503?tstart=0 and I'll resize them to PCW's specs. Then you can post them here and continue this cool topic. Me thinks more people wanna know about it, si?

That's part of what I do as a graphic maker, anyway. :)

I may have a workaround for it but I'm not 100% sure. I am going to open the thing and try to move it to paint. If I can, then I can create a folder and put the whole mess in there and figure a way to get it to you. coastie

Open it in PowerPoint 2007 and then see if you can save it in the PowerPoint 2000 or 2003 formats. There should be a 'save as' option. There is on Word and Excell and I have used both.

That thing is bigger than most of the Cutter's you served on.

OFF TOPIC

I don't have Power Point, and I've never had it. One time my son sent me a picture with Power Point, and I clicked on it not knowing about it, and it completely took over my ENTIRE screen! I didn't even have an option to minimize the screen!

It scared the living daylights out of me. I had to turn the computer off to be able to get out of Power Point. Now everytime someone starts talking about it, it kind of scares me a little.

Actually you did have PowerPoint with MS Office 2007 Home & Student as it is one of the application. When the PowerPoint application opens the PowerPoint presentation it normally goes full screen. To get out out of the presentation, you usually just have to hit escape. Without PowerPoint or the Open Office work alike when you double click on a .pps file, nothing will happen.
OpenOffice has a PowerPoint like presentation application.

Micro$oft offers a free PowerPoint Viewer. You can get it here.

hello adama. i couldn't help but to chuckle for a while at your comment regarding how scared you got when you couldn't minimize the screen. your experience reminds me of the time i got a trojan and couldn't do crap to control it. the trojan totally highjacked my desktop and placed a wallpaper over my original wallpaper. ready for the message? LOL - it read in bright red background color and white text, 'Warning: You Have Downloaded Porn, to Get Rid of install this Program'. i freaked out so bad, my heart was pounding, my palms were sweaty, and my face was beet red. OMG! i will never forget this horrible morning at guess where? out of all places, my job. LOL!

of course to remedy the problem, i used superantispyware to get rid of it but during its initial infection i panic like a scared dog with his tail between his legs. LOL!

Hi Adama, That kinda had me going for a minute, but all you need to do is right click on it, and you have your options ( Except Minimize), and can end the slide show. I just wish they had picked a different format. I'm Ok with it now that i figured the thing out. coastie

Hey philly, :D My initial reaction from my little episode a couple of weeks ago, was a minimum amount of panic and a maximum amount of irritation. Took a lot of scans with various scanners to remove all the stuff that got dumped on me, plus the uninstallation and reinstallation of Java and i deleted my system restore folder and reset a new restoere point. coastie

Having an up to date clone either on the shelf or in the cabinet has a wonderful soothing effect in a case like that. One morning in a moment of abject stupidity I installed an XP video driver on my Media Center running Vista. After it reset I was looking at a totally blank screen. After the momentary O! S!, is calmly forced the machine off and then got down, disconnected the leads from drive A and connected to drive B and rebooted and continued. Full Disclosure - shameless clone plug.

I only served on one, and that was only 311'. When i got out, they had introduced a new ship that was 378' and a cruise ship compared to rest. Now they are coming out with an even bigger one at 418'. Also, we didn't have a bar onboard either.

Phillypa, Hi, IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU!

OMG, you cracked me up! I understand exactly what you mean.... the heart pounding, the sweaty palms, knees shaking... such an awful, helpless feeling. QFT for sure!

And it happened at YOUR work! !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/
1! Panic time! But I'm glad you were able to get it fixed right away. :D

Hi Coastie,

Thanks for the info. I had no idea at that time that I had options to get rid of the picture on my screen, so that's good to know.

And, I'm glad that you figured out the thing about the slideshow too.

Are you kidding? He probably has Hot & Cold running Maids on that thing to take care of that.
