Hi Bill.

Whenever I try to use the Insert/Edit Image option, or just insert an Emoticon on a post/thread, it takes a LONG time to load the page.

Sometimes, when the page does come up, it shows up smaller. I took a Snip to show you, but I'm not going to try to load it right now, because I'm running a little short of time today.

Thanks for all your assistance. :) (I'm just actually typing the symbols for the emos.)

Ok, just FYI I did a bunch of tests in Firefox and could not recreate this problem, which is why I asked to move the conversation here. :8}

So what browser are you using, and do you use the Rich Text editor? Have you tried uploading images recently to a thread other than the one I didn't want to hijack? Can you try doing one in this thread? Same with emoticons?

And, if anyone else is having this same issue please chime in!

Thanks!

Bill

Hi Bill,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've been real busy elsewhere, doing life stuff.

Now to answer your questions:

a) I use IE7 and yes, I always use Rich Text editor.

b) I tried uploading pics and emos to my SolarWings thread. Let me see how I do today, I'll try the feature one more time.Posted Image

This is a Snip I took yesterday but I couldn't upload because it was taking so long. This snip was about 1/2 the size of the regular page that I'm used to seeing when I go to insert a pic.

c) Today, I clicked on Insert/Edit image at 3:47:39pm, and at 3:48:08pm I had an Insert page. I just noticed something! There's a NEW Browse button and a NEW Upload button!

So, when clicking on Insert Image didn't work, I clicked on Browse, which took me to my Pictures folder. Then it showed some kind of URL and then clicked on Upload, then on Insert and there is the Snip I took yesterday.

d) Now, let's take a look at the emoticons option: B-) I clicked on it at 3:59:09pm and got the emoticon page at 3:59:26pm. Clicked on an emo and this time it was right there. Before, it was taking much, much longer to give me the emo page, and to show up on the thread.

So, it looks like it's working a little better for me, but still slower than before. And, BTW, did you recently change the Insert/Edit image options?

Hey Adama,
Interesting. No, we have not changed anything in the insert/edit image feature.
Someone somewhere mentioned something about you recently updating java on your machine, is that correct or am I mistaken? If so what version of java have you upgraded to, and did this start happening around the same time? Are you doing any sort of ad blocking? Have you ever heard of tinyMCE and if so have you recently done anything that may affect it's operation? Anything else you've done to your machine recently that could be affecting your browser? Does the Rich Text editor seem to otherwise work ok for you?

Sorry for the million questions!

Thanks,
Bill

Hi again, Bill.
REally? no changes whatsoever? Hmmmm.... very interesting.
1 - I did just updatedJava. I had 2 older versions in my computer, and I just updated to the latest one just a couple of days, probably this past Monday.

2 - No, this problem started before then.

3 - I had installed a small photo editing program, called Photo! Editor and I uninstalled it thinking that it was the reason for the slow downs. But I don't think so, because they still continue.

4 - And, on Sept. 12, I installed Ad Muncher, because I got sick and tired of Yahoo's uber-obnixious ads and I wanted some peace and quiet. < sigh > aaahhh...

5 - I've never heard of tinyMCE... What is that???

6 - I had installed WOT (World Of Trust) for Windows, but I uninstalled it after about 2 days, because I thought it was the cause for my Gadgets taking a long time to load too. Yeah, I have a thread going about that one too. :p

7 - Rick Text works ok for me, otherwise.

Thanks so much, Bill. Does any of that help?

I came back and just took a Snip of the NEW Insert/Edit image page I got today. See? the Upload Image is no longer blue and there's no blue arrow. I have to click on Browse to go to my Picture folder, and then I have to click on Upload to see the uploaded image, then click on Insert over on the bottom, right hand side, to insert the image. It looks completely different from the one I took yesterday too!

What in the world is going on??? ? !

Ooops, I forgot to add that I uninstalled MSFT Office and Student 2007 last month, Aug. 15.

I then downloaded OpenOffice and have only used it a couple of times since then.

My Bad. :| Did I mention that I have IE7?

Well crud, no I don't see anything that should be causing what you are seeing. Have you tried clearing your cache in your browser? Have you tried it in a different browser, such as FireFox? Do you use your ad blocker while in the forums, and if so can you try turning it off and see if that makes a difference?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Well, I just went into My Filters in Ad Muncher, and added pcworld dot com as an Exception. So I'm going to try it now.

Well, the old Insert/Edit image page is BACK! It only took about 11 secs to take me to the Upload Image page, the one with the blue arrow. I grabbed my yellow ranting emo from my Pictures folder. If I remember correctly it has taken me about that long for quite some time now, not just these past few days.

X-( And, to insert this angry emo, took me about the same to get me to the emo page, but it showed up right away.

Hi again Bill,

There's something else I wanted to talk to you about, since it's kind of related to the subject.

For quite a while now, when I have to edit my post and want to enter an emo at that time, all I get is the little square with a red x in it. No emo, just the red x.

It happens time after time. I'm no longer able to insert an emo when editing my post.
