So Cosmo, what exactly do you think is overrated about the iPhone?

I'm a bit of an Apple fanboy but unlike most others I'm not asking to be sarcastic/ superior/ whatever the die-hard kool-aid drinkers want to be, I'm just interested in hearing the answer... Quite honestly I love my iPhone 3G - prior to that I owned an HTC PPC-6700 which originally had Windows Mobile 5 but had upgraded to WM 6.1 via custom roms and I own both a desktop and laptop that use windows (XP on both since I really don't care for Vista) so it's not like I don't have experience with the microsoft side of things...

I believe the hype behind it was definitely overrated. It was old gen tech, and basically the only thing it had that a blackberry didn't was the touch screen. The amount of hype generated for a phone that was overpriced, old technology and locked out 3rd party software was ridiculous, IMO.

I can see that... it took me quite a while to get my iPhone and honestly that was due to me playing with a 3G in the store and getting really burned out with Sprint. I do like that it's a multifunction device and the browser does work loads better than any other mobile browser I've dealt with. I admit that I'm not very happy about it being locked out as far as 3rd party apps - hence mine is jailbroken as to allow 3rd party apps and themes on it... things that should have been included anyhow IMHO. The platform and hardware does indeed have it's faults despite the hype. Having a blackberry as well I can say that the iPhone (3G) does have a lot more going for it than the blackberry - at least as far as my 8703e is concerned... but maybe the new Storm will bring in something new...

The whole point of Google Documents is that THEY ARE ONLINE. You list that feature as a negative, but you're wrong. Online apps do not require downloading or installation. Your Google docs are available from any computer in the world. That said, there are more powerful web-based office apps, such as ThinkFree, which blows Google Documents away.

OpenOffice, on the other hand, is OUTMODED. Like Microsoft Office, it has to be INSTALLED.

Web-based apps are the future. Down with downloading!

Comparing video downloads to Blu-Ray DVD is retarded. Apples and oranges. They are not even competing for the same market, because they are not in the same category. Downloaded video is something you do on your computing, on websites. Blu-Ray is something you do on your TV with a DVD player. STUPID COMPARISON.

That said, it's beginning to seem that blu-ray and internet video streaming is getting close together. Like a couple of days ago, youtube began streaming 720p video, you just have to upload your video in native 720p format. It will only be a matter of time before video services (like the itunes store, for example) catches up and begins selling streaming movies in HD.

Dude ever hear of streaming, extenders, or media computers? Computers can now be attached to Plasma or LCD TV's alowing you to view video or audio right on your TV. Loads of people are now downloading or streaming content to watch right in the living room.

To compare Blu Ray and downloads is valid and not a "stupid comparison". Downloads are great for people who don't have alot of storage space, while Blu Ray offers extra features that downloads don't offer. Blu Ray and HD Downloads are in competition, how can one think they're not?

Sorry dude, don't mean to be rude but "After I did a factory
restore to XP, I had to restore four more times because some random
problem that I know I didn't cause kept it from booting or networking
or some other problem. I wish I hadn't put my Vista license on my mom's
laptop now"

XP doesn't have a "Factory restore". some PC suppliers/IT departments provide recovery disks which attempt to recover a windows installation, often based on a hiden partition although not always. If you want to get a clean installof XP, install XP from scratch - complaining that you can't recover XP after you've installed another OS over it is a little harsh (especially since you probably did at least one reformat in the middle somewhere).

I think there is about an equal number of people who despise Vista and who swear by it. When 1 out of 2 people who use a system don't like it, some of whom refuse to use it (and thus go Linux or Mac), that hardly makes Vista or any other Windows product overrated. The only real cheerleaders for Windows are probably those who have a vested financial interest in or connection with Microsoft.

I am SO glad that by the time I get around to buying another PC I will have missed the Vista train and will be getting whatevers next (Windows 7 is that REALLY what they're going to call it?)Just as I'm grateful that I missed the Windows 2000 train. I will admit I was not thrilled with XP when it first arrived. But I very quickly figured out why it really was better then 98 and it ran great on the low end computer I got it with. Not so Vista. I'm still trying to find the one thing that it does so much better then XP (Okay I like the networking interface better but that's not where I spend most of my time) My wife's laptop with XP and 1 gig of ram is spry and lith, my sons laptop with Vista and 1 gig of ram is anything but. I'm hoping Microsoft will come to understand that many users are not prepared to give up their old peripherals just for the sake of having the new "Ohh ahh" OS. Win 95 was a pretty good OS and Win 98 made it better, why didn't they go that path instead of trying to wow us with this bloatware they call Vista?

This article seems to be extremely contradictory and, well, wrong! The writer is anti-ultra laptop, recommending a $1000 laptop is better than the $350 ultra laptop. Um... Duh? The magazine frequently bashes zune, but now they are suddenly saying it is underrated. If this article was written to purposefully "light fires", I feel like it is in poor judgment, as it takes us consumers and confuses us! PC world is the magazine that hypes up and rates this product and then rags on that one. By saying it is overrated, your basically saying that PC World is not reliable, since you are saying one thing and doing another.
