Honestly, I don't see why not if you know what you're doing. I personally just stuck to the HD that was used here but if you'd like to try another and let us know that'd be great :)

Amazon for the win. I've had too many bad situations on eBay to ever shop there again.

Good 'article' but does not reveal how to copy all the old settings to the new drive after setting up the new drive. When I performed this task the program did not work on any of the four computers in my house. I had to eventually use an old SATA card to access the drive as it seemed that the program didn't like the SATA on the motherboards. Eventually worked ok but now need to find out how to copy the files betwwen the drives.

"I know it's a couple months late for a response, but others might want to know... The simplest way would be to use an Xbox 360 memory unit to transfer the files from one drive to the other. Unlike thumb drives, you can copy profiles and save games to Memory Units. The new $199 core system that just came out includes a 256mb Memory Unit.
Another option would be using a disk imaging program to clone the drive and then resize the partition. I'm not sure if partition resizing is possible right now given the partition format the 360 uses, maybe someone else can chime in on that and let us know. http://www.sysresccd.org/ would be a good tool to look at for starters on this."

I personally just used the memory unit to transfer things over. It's quick and easy. Just make sure you are logged into the same profile of the saved game that you're copying over, or you may get screwed.

Yes, the fastest way to transfer your stuff is with a memory stick. the only problem is that if you don't use Xplorer360 you won't be creating Partition 2 which is used for xbox 1 backward compatibility. IE, you won't be able to save XBox 1 games.

That's a great question and I personally haven't found a place to get just the enclosure. Unfortunately they aren't easy to come by, if someone has an Xbox 360 then they are more than likely using the enclosure that came with it. I'd think the only way to get an enclosure would be to buy someone's 20GB HD, because it's pretty much obsolete now. Amazon has it used for around $50 and the scorpio for around $55, so it's still cheaper than buying the $140-160 120GB HD from micro$oft.

There is a way to transfer all of your files from and old HDD to a new HDD. Bothe must be formatted and bith must be SATA. You have to find an Elite (black) 360 and write down its serial #. Then go to XBOX.com and search for "elite transfer" or something like that. You will eventually find a page dedicated to people whi wish to upgrade and buy new hard drives and then transfer their stuff. Most of the new hard drives come with the converter cable and disc. Print the sheet which you must download and then fill it out and mail it in with the needed information. I used my friends Xbox 360 Elite SN and I happened to get 2 converter packages (disc and cable).

When you send your 360 in for the "Red Ring of Death" syndrome they ask you to remove everything that you can from the Xbox before boxing and shipping it. The HDD is not permenantly attatched to the system.

Ms has been selling movies for the xbox before the PS3 was even being made, what are you blind ?? plus that money mostly goes to hollywood, then also they limit the hard drive space and made it where you cannot use external harddrives to stop pravicy. people would buy maps or movies, then unplug it from the xbox and copy it to their pc and put it on the internet, that would be the down fall of xbox live if that happens, if you dont like it, keep it moving.

I really want to do this, but I have so much DLC, and don't fully understand what the purpose of the transfer kit bundled with the retail drive is. I'm assuming it's so you don't have to re-download everything/use mem card. Also, as long as you have a big enough memory unit you can back up your saves and profile, which can't be downloaded...is this all correct?

I have the 20gb model right now, it's a pain in the ass. But if I can save $80 bucks for the price of just having to download all my DLC again, I guess it's a small price to pay, it's almost enough to buy their overpriced wireless adapter.

@djkdawg
Do it! Yes, the transfer kit is for transferring your DLC and save games. However you can use a memory card to transfer the save games and re-download all your DLC.

Or, you can go through your own transfer process to bring over your save games and DLC. http://tech.redcat.u...diawiki/UpgradeXbox360harddrive. Any way you do it, you'll end up saving money and have a 120GB drive.

Does replacing your hard drive require a specific size or could I use a 100GB hard drive I already have?
And does the drives brand/model have any importance?

@ebbsyg. This is the exact drive you want http://www.wdc.com/e...sp?DriveID=200. Model WD1200BEVS. Are you running hddhackr in windows, or rebooted off a DOS diskette or USB key?

One more thing you can try it to enter your system BIOS and set any SATA settings to legecy, or compatibility. I had to tinker with my SATA settings to get the drive to go.

Not a damn thing I've tried has worked yet. Does it need to be in a specific format? My windows automatically formatted it in NTFS when I wasn't looking. Could that have anything do do with my issues?
