Hi. I was trying to find a way to mark a group of emails as 'read' in Windows Live Mail (Hotmail). As a last resort I Googled hotmail "mark as read" and one of the results linked to a Microsoft support site that mentioned using CTRL+Q to achieve my objective. However, when I tried that, the screen suddenly displayed all my open tabs as thumbnails in the current window.

I'm wondering, did I discover a new keyboard shortcut or is this something everybody knew about but me?

Hey Wayne!!

See how much fun Windows can be!LOL! Could this be a clone from Opera?

OK, to tell you the truth , I didn't know this could be done in IE7 either. But, then

again, I only use Firefox. if I need IE7 for any reason I make use of the IE Plug-In

for Firefox. It does the trick all the time so, no ActiveX and when I close Firefox

all of my data and cookies are deleted. But, a nice find nonetheless Wayne.

Hi UncleW. First, please note that the General Talk Community is not for technical questions. It is intended to be a place for PCWorld members to share and discuss off-topic items, and just generally have fun. For further guidelines, please refer to this Discussion thread. I have moved this Discussion into the Web Browsing & Email Community.

Now, honestly, I am with Flashorn. I rarely use Internet Explorer in my personal computer usage. However, in my professional computer usage, I use Internet Explorer the vast majority of the time. I personally did not know of this shortcut so I tested it. Sure enough, it shows all tabs in a thumbnail view. Consequently, this shortcut does not work in Firefox.

MPH, thanks for routing my post to the correct location. I guess I thought of it more as a curious observation than a technical question, though.

Re: browsers, I'm in the habit of opening both IE and FF because many sites render differently in the two.

Hey Wayne!!

You know that by opening both browsers you actually use

almost 50 MB more of ram just to have IE open on your desktop.

Now, if you were to use the IE Plug-In for Firefox, you would save

that resource and could make use of it toward opening up another

useful app. instead. IE Plug-In for Firefox .

Just a thought ,Wayne !

The quick tabs feature as it is called has been in IE since IE7 was launched. If you open multiple tabs in IE7 , you will notice a small button comming up on left side of the first tab. That is the quick tabs button.

Not really. The Speed dial is very different from Quick tabs. The name itself tells the difference. Speed dial - just a way of quickly opening many sites without typing anything. Quick tabs - A way of managing different tabs i.e already open pages.
