I have a network at home which consist of two computer and a vongae telephone, but for the past 3 weeks I noticed that the internet is on but certain things would not work, for instance google would work but certain other website's would not, I would be able to go to yahoo but I wont be able the check my email the page would basically come up as if i'm not on the internet or the site is down, i would be able to sign on to msn messenger but not able to check my mail, and the most frustrating thing is certain websites would work but then the others would not. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? tried resetting everything pluggin out the cable modem and router for a while and pluggin em back in, but it still acts up, HELP!
One computer is running Xp and the other Vista and I have no firewalls active or installed.

Hi apachie and welcome to the forum. Ok. I am assuming you mean't two computers with internet access and not networked to each other. If so, is this problem evident on both or just one ? If it is just one computer, I would say that you need to uninstall all the internet stuff and reinstall it as it may have been a bad install. If it is on both, I would say the problem could be with your provider, and I'm willing to guess that it is Comcast (Vonage Phone service ). That having been said, I would definately NOT recommend not using a firewall, you should always have one in place. coastie65

Sounds like problems on your ISP's end...maybe with their DNS servers. Have you tried calling your ISP?

Um no, but I know another person with a similar set up and his works fine....and if it was the ISP wouldnt my internet not work at all?
P.S.
The vonage works perfectly just internet access on both computers giving problems.

Not necessarily. There are LOTS of things that can go wrong with ISPs and not all of them completely "hose" your connection. If they are having DNS problems, then usually it would be all websites, but it could be "sporadic". Or it could be your modem "flaking" on you. If a reset of the modem, router and computers does not help, then I would call the ISP...this assumes you are having the problem on BOTH computers...if it is only on one computer of the two, then that is more of an indication of a local problem on your end. While calling the ISP and waiting on hold can be a pain in the rear, I suspect it is your best course of action at this point.
And the Vonage likely works because it uses a difference set of DNS server IP addresses than your Internet connection...at least that is the case with my Vonage line (this can be seen by opening up the router configuration page and looking at the status page). As such, if the ISP's DNS is flaking, it would not likely affect the Vonage as it uses a different set of "voice" DNS servers.
