BETA ? what is it

I'm young and new here.
Can you explain what a " beta " download is , why i should take it or not.
I'm on Vista.

"Beta" is computer-speak for "EXPERIMENTAL" and I recommend these be AVOIDED

unless One is a very experienced computer use or very highly technically oriented .

I avoided ALL "Beta" products; I let Others be the guinea pigs to uncover the "flaws" .

Beta is anything that has been under development but still requires bug fixes before an official release.
