Greetings and salutations to all the forum people,
Over the last few days I've heard talk of an all new windows Operating System to be called Windows 7.
Does anyone know anything about this? Or is it just empty talk? I ask because of what will hapen to all of us that just bought or own Windows Vista PC's. Will we be left out in the cold or what?

windows 7 will be the next windows OS and will be the successor to Vista. Its release date is not yet confirmed by msft but it may come anytime by the end 2009 to mid 2010. Plenty of time till then to enjoy vista. And msft is known to delay things. lol
Ballmer quoted that Windows 7 will be a minor upgrade to vista. So upgrading from vista to windows 7 would not be a major priority for anyone. For those who already have vista on a PC wont shift to windows 7 quickly, unless its a new build. You can see some of the screenshots of the windows 7 new build here*. Its similar to vista.
And vista users wont be left out in cold. Msft have already confirmed that the next DirectX i.e dx11 will be available for vista also other than Windows 7. So it would not be like dx10 absence in xp.
The end line is that. Windows vista was a major upgrade while Windows 7 will be a minor one.
XP------------->Vista-->Windows 7. :D

Can't quite agree with [~71480]. I read an article in PC Magazine about month ago or so, that MS makes all possible to implement new OS on market ASAP. Vista is considerred as a wrong child. That's why MS lost a lott of customers who are switcheing to Linux mased OSs. That's why it's very important to forgot about Vista ASAP. New Windows 7 will have GUI similar to Vista and as light as Linux based OS. As for the time frame - end of the next year.

There are tons of articles everywhere stating that windows 7 will be a minor upgrade including Ballmer's statement. Some say it vista with a few performance upgrades. The windows 7 release will have more to do with vista's bad image - slight changes and a different name and a different story. I consider it something similar to the Mojave experiment done by msft few months ago and what a success it was.
windows 7 - Most vista users wont be upgrading to windows 7 on their vista running machines since its not worth giving $ for minor upgrades. How can we forget vista ? Forget a stable , reliable, secure OS from msft ? And go back to what - XP . No way.
Thirdly - Can you quote any reference as to why do you think windows 7 will be as light as linux based OSes. Most linux based OS are light coz they come with only base (kernel UI basic utilities). You have to install and install to make it work your way. Windows have always been a completely cooked type of curry , It cant be light. IMO
