I have a almost 1 year old Dell PC with Windows Vista Ultimate I cannot get certain web pages to load. I can get them to load on my wife's older Windows XP Dell machine. I cannot remember if I could ever get these pages to load.

They are just plain web pages, one is: www.signforums.com/forums/ another is: [http://www.signweb.com/] they are both sites for Sign Makers. I have disabled adware programs and virus programs. Just seem to be missing something.

Please help.

Thanks

Jerry

I use google Popup block and shut/off IE7 popup off.

Does it load at all or take along time to load.....?

Hi Jerry and welcome to PCWorld Community.

I had no problem getting to view those 2 websites (as a budding graphics artiste, I'm interested in stuff like that) and I have Vista Home Premium.

Maybe your IE is blocking them somehow?

I just made a quick check and I think this is how you can fix that.

Go up to Tools, you'll get a menu. Click on Internet Options at the very bottom.

Click on the Security tab. It would look something like this:

1!

Next, click on the green check mark labeled Trusted Sites. You'll get this menu:

1!

Next, type the address of the two websites you trust. They must start with http:// They should appear in the top bar. Then click the Add button.

If you get another window where the Apply button is clear, then click on that to apply the entry.

And, you're done.

First: http:// is not a secure protected domain (like https://), that's why no need to add it to trusted web sites.

Second: Do you have any Antivirus and/or Firewall installed? They can block some websites!

Third: Do you have any Antivirus and Spyware protection installed and updated. And did you scan you PC with them lately? It could be virus.

Forth: Did you clean Tem files? Tools/Options/Delete/All. IE stores temp files up to certain size of MB. Could be you are out of that size.

Fith: The worst could be you HDD goes bad.

Let's hope for the best!

Hi,

I have tried all of the above, same thing, the pages never load, just saysInternet Explorer cannot load page. I don't think it is the hard drive, I do a lot of sign & graphics work and run a image of the drive for back up once a week. I can goe to my wife's older dell and the pages load very nicely.

Thanks to everyone for their tips and suggestions, please keep them coming.

Hi Jerry. NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR HDD , (He's a Geek" Or a Crook" from BB....trying to sell you new HDD)

what's browser you r using...? IE7...? You can set it the same way your wife's pc browser's settings..to see if it works.

Try to swap your browser.....If you'r using IE...then try FF.

As of now ...We don't have much of your Pc 's info...such as Whats Version of java you are using..? some sites use heavy java scripts..

Please post more info.(NO serial #)..Hopefully we 'll find out why you can't log in those sites.

:D Hi Jerry :

Perhaps IF we knew what programs are on this computer, we might uncover the "cause" of

your current problem . To do so, download, then install a program called "HijackThis" from

www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis . After installation, click the "Open the Misc

Tools section" button . Then click the "Open Uninstall Manager"button . Hopefully, a "List"

will appear . Computer "copy and paste" that "List" in your next reply .

Jerry - I know this may be a long shot, but have you tried Firefox?

If you have, the results may give additional clues.

Posted Image Hi Jerry :

RGreen touched on my next "topic", as to IF you are using Firefox or IE when you try to

access those 2 Sites ? This may be a browser problem, not an Operating System

problem !? And since you probably have IE, would be helpful to know WHICH Specific

Version Number !? IF Firefox, have any of their "Add-Ons" ? IF Yes, which One(s) ?

Now to the "List" : do you actually have 12+ copies of 2007 Microsoft Office Suite or are

you using multiple language versions ? Have never seen so many Adobe programs on a

computer before and One of them, namely the "Reader" is a serious security risk . Recently,

Researchers found a new hackertoolkit that uses nothing but Adobe securityleaks in order to infect systems. "PDF Xploit Pack" ( http://www.trustedso...e-PDF-Exploits] )adds all kind of exploits to PDF-files. When a certain exploit has succesfully infected the OS, the IP address is sent to the attackers, so they need to try again. This to reduce the time it takes to manage the bots.

Use of PDF-files is becoming more and more popular amongst malcreants, this because other toolkits also have PDF exploits now. A year ago only 3% of the exploits were PDF directed. So it would be wise to "switch" to either the FREE "Foxit Reader" or FREE CutePDF .

The "Ask Toolbar" and "Coupon Printer for Windows" are adware, IF not worse .

The Java version you have is "undefined", which is risky, since One should ONLY have

the latest "Version/Update"; unless your "Programs and Features" shows you have

"Runtime Environment 6, UPDATE 7", you should uninstall all the "version(s)" you have,

then go to [http://www.java.com
for the latest .

No security programs showed up on the "List", but I do NOT know IF that is because you

said you "disabled" all of them !? Which One(s) do you have ? I would NOT include

"Windows Live" as a desirable security program .

Hi SpiritWind.

I am using IE-7 also have FireFox, they both won't access the sites.

Tried using IE-7 with no add ons, MS Office I have English, Spanish and French versions(don't know how to get rid of the Spanish or French, used the Spanish' no idea how the French got here)

Deleted the Ask and Coupon Printer, updated Java to Version 6 update 10.

Use Vipre for antivirus(scans every other day for adware uses active protection all the time), used to have Norton, didn't get these sites with only Norton either.

Thanks

Jerry

Hi Jerry. How bad you need to use those web sites...If bad enough may I suggest few things to try...:(You can reinstall them LATER)

1/ Uninstall Wds LIVE....( Messed me up BIG time ...few months ago)

2/ Uninstall all tool bars expept Google.( Don't need that many anyway)

3/ Reset IE7.....(You need to set it back the way you like later)

4/ I got in those sites and ....consider safe..So go ahead , disable all AV....security....including Wds Defender...and IE phishing filter.

5/ Go to Adobe.com.. install newest Flash Player active X.( If you already had it...UNINSTALL..IT....and get the new one)

6/ Last solution....TURN OFF UAC..( Mine is Off long time ago)

REBOOT....Good luck.

( Still does not work.....DO A SYSTEM RESTORE JUST UP TO THE LAST UPDATE.......You can always run WDs Auto update and get them back later)

:D Hi Jerry :

Thanks for the "Update" . Would like to check your "Hosts File" ; to do, start the HijackThis

program, then click "Config" button, then the "Misc Tools" button, then "Open hosts file

manager" button . Copy and paste the Info BELOW the "Explanation" .

IF you are using a Router, have you checked its "Settings" to see IF it may be causing

the "problem" !? I assume you have no software firewall and ONLY the built-in Vista

One !?

As far as all those programs I saw, some of them may be "unnecessary" and I usually

recommend using the FREE "PC Decrapifier" available at http://www.pcdecrapifier.com .

P.S. I did not see any Microsoft "Critical" Security Updates in the "List" ; have you been

getting the monthly Releases on a regular basis ?

P.S. #2 : Perhaps there may be some helpful Info in the "Windows Vista Ultimate Helpful

hints" available through aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=33103 !?

Posted Image Hi Jerry :

It appears your "Vista Manager" program is causing your problem; you will Note that BOTH

"signforums.com" & "signweb.com" are in the "List" that has been "re-written" in your

"Hosts File" . An Example of a correctly, re-written Hosts File, is by the Expert MVPS at

www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt ; to Stop malware, you will notice that each

"line" begins with "127.0.0.1" . At a minimum, you should "disable" the "Hosts File"

rewriting capabilities of the "Vista Manager" program; at a maximum, you should uninstall

that program . To "correct" the apparent "damage" done, I recommend you use the FREE

"HostsXpert" program available at [http://www.funkytoad.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13] .

After installation, use the "Restore MS Hosts" and/or "Remove Block Items" Feature(s)

and assuming this is successful, seriously consider using the "Make Hosts read-only"

Feature .
