Windows 7 is Vista, and there is no other way of looking at it. Microsoft is saying that we have improve our already successfull operating sytem "Windows Vista!". They are being ignorant, and with new OS they are even more draconian.

I am glade that I bought Mac, and I ain't going back.

More Vista bashing, and from a Mac User? Surprise, surprise. Vista isn't a terrible OS, in fact it's actually one of the best iterations of Windows. With proper system tweeking you can pretty much get Vista to run however you want it to run, and by no means do I think Windows 7 will be bad.

Congrats on your Mac, you must be an individual. You spent three times the amount of money to do the same thing with your Mac that I can do with my PC, not to mention the fact that the hardware under the hood is generally total garbage. Mac's are good for people who don't really have a practical use for a computer other then surfing the internet, checking their e-mail, and multimedia editing (be it video or image, but I would like to remind you that both are easily do able with a Windows Based PC).
Lord help you if you own a Mac and actually want to play a video game other then World of Warcraft (and even then it's almost a joke).

A fascinating and informative (!) intro to W7.

I hope we get a chance to move to this interesting product / environment.

The big question that needs to be answered is How is MS going to compensate all the Vista users for having paid to be BETA TESTERS?!?

I use Vista, and it's fine. I have 4 computes in the house, this laptop with Vista, a work laptop with XP Pro, and 2 XP desktops. I don't find Vista slower, harder to use, or "annoying".

Oh gosh! I'm going to be so glad to get Windows 7 here just to stop the mindless bashing of Vista! There are so many ignorant things said in this article, it's amazing you work for a magazine like this! Vista is more secure and faster than XP. You don't even know what UAC is for goodness sakes.

I've been a Windows Techie for over 10 years. I've learned over those years never to take things from MS at face value. Vista Ultimate is Great. IF you know what your doing. IF you read about what it can and can't do before you install it, so you can anticipate the work arounds needed. I also run XP Pro. Which is also great. It allows me to some things more easily than Vista can, of course the reverse is also true. Between them I'm very happy. Seems to me the new W7 will be a blending of the 2 which I can't wait to try out. But I will be reading ALL the articles as to what it CAN and CAN'T do first, and I suggest everyone else do the same as well before jumping in with both feet and then start MS bashing again.

Is it just me or are people become afraid of their own pc's "omg omg its going to blow up please steve job hold my hand i am scared" lol. Its sad that in the future pc's will turn into consumer electronics unable to upgrade and do squat with your pc. Thanks apple for taking away the freedom.

If everything here pans out, and some of my favorite apps really do still work after it ships, MS might just win me back.

Until that is proven, I'll be keeping my XP disk well protected.

I love what I am seeing, I am pretty sure windows is working out the kinks that Vista has. Who knows 7 maybe the best ever and vista will go down in history the way New Coke has. As for now though Ill stick with my XP, I just hope 7 needs less than a 1 gig to run.

Okay, this isn't me being tenacious or anything but most PC's come standard with 2 gigs of RAM. I'm not talking like build your own, I'm talking like Wal-Mart integrated HP.
I'd really doubt it'll need less then a gig to run, but with an expected release date of 2010 I'd assume standard PC's will be running on three to four.

I agree that with the proper tweaks, Vista is a very good OS. That being said, I do look forward to the next version of Windows.

It is my suspicion that most sMac users who bash any Windows OS probably haven't taken the time to even try Windows for any period of time.

I personally prefer PCLinuxOS 2007 over any sMac OS ever produced.

Look here, we see both sides, Mac fanboys, and M$ fanboys... yet no one here seems to be making a statement that is relevant.
1. for those that try to say vista is not slower - try running Vista on a machine with 512MB of ram - a little anemic? While Xp won't be great - you sure as hell can't tell me that Vista will run better. It is easy to say that the latest version of Windows is quicker when you require more powerful hardware. - NOW whats the chance that Windows 7 won't require even more?
2. Windows Vista was broke from day one. anyone here try installing on a machine with more than 3GB ram? ever notice that the installer won't even load? Try the 64bit edition... still won't work? Well, try XP X64 - holy crap it works! This is just a Vista issue Point guys - no - vista was never ready for prime time, don't try to blame the common user for not liking it.
3. If you have to 'tweak' it, out of the box, you have a problem. The only Linux tweaking I do - is changing my background, and my 3d effects levels. It RUNS out of the box, and runs SMOOTH. Even XP takes less time to set up.
4. Vista IS annoying - and I for one am sick of it. eg. download file, click open, click ' Yes I am sure I want to run this', click ' Yes I am Positive I want to run this', click 'Yes log me in as admin so I can run this damned thing already'.... or my Dial-up connection (EVDO modem) that Vista has to ask me EVERY TIME if its public, work, or home location - remember this connection already...
in summary - no vista wasn't ready to be released, M$ needed a release - they needed money, however - if Windows 7 fixes the problems - I am all for a good resolution.

Well man do you expect to hear from Microsoft that their faulty OS has no future? Start reading between lines! Take a look at the statistiks. Number of Vista computers in the world is successfully growing. Yes, that's because the choise is very limited. Well, you now belog to 3.8% of Mac users in the world. Lucky you are guys!

I am looking forward to the Windows 7.I think it is a good idea to have some cloud computing with this os.I would not want my whole os to be in a cloud format.I also would hope that they make it, so that you can still download third party software.Mac is basically a throw away computer, and I was told that by an Apple represenative. The rep said that if the hard drive goes, you have to buy another Mac, and there are certain parts that cannot be upgraded at all along with the hard drive.

The rep was a liar. Hope he didn't sell you any land in Florida.

I would not mind if it needed more than a Gig to run if windows would do away with the 32 bit.
