Okay I don't have any personal experience with any these devices, but they all meet your above specifications:

SanDisk Sansa c250 2GB MP3 Player (Refurbished) Sansa] (This device uses an internal rechargeable Li-Ion battery)

[SDMX11R-2048P-A70 MP3 Player (Refurbished)
Sansa] (This device uses an internal rechargeable battery.. i'm guessing, though not sure, its Li-Ion)

[Coby MP300-4G MP3 Player with 4 GB Flash Memory, USB Drive and LCD - Black Coby] (This device uses an internal rechargeable battery... once again guessing its Li-Ion)

[SanDisk Sansa m250 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) [Sansa] (This device uses an internal rechargeable battery... once again guessing its Li-Ion)

So... it really depends what the device will be used for. If you want a screen and don't care that its refurbished, go with one of the first two. If you want max space and don't care about a small screen, go with the third. And if you want a combo of the both, go with the last one. Hope this helped.

Sincerely,

Collin.

the first two hits reviewed really well, plus they are simple, small and compact. (i cant decide between the two)

now the toss up begins
